Our world is both beautiful and awful. For every awesome natural sight, we find a horrible act of violence, a deadly disease or a terrible tragedy. What has gone so badly wrong in our world? Genesis 3 gives us the answer - and points towards the solution.

It's possible for a local church to have a good reputation, but poor spiritual health. Jesus, the Great Physician, diagnosed the Sardis church as "dead". What leads to a church receiving such a dire diagnosis? And what can be done about it?

"Are you a tolerant person?" "Is this a tolerant church?" These kinds of questions are being asked of Christians a lot in our culture today. But if we're more tolerant than Jesus, we've made a mistake.

Christians are mocked and ridiculed for their beliefs regarding who we are, where we came from and how we should live together are perhaps more than anything else. But in societies that have radically changed their beliefs on these issues, God's Word remains unchanged and timely for all human relationships.

The biggest threats to the local church often come from inside, rather than outside; from asking, "What's the harm?" This letter shows us Jesus' knowledge of our challenges, but his hatred of our compromise with worldly behaviour and beliefs.

Two trees sum up the whole of human history; which sums up your life?

The gospel is still being preached in Smyrna today - modern-day Izmir, Turkey. This despite thousands of years of persecutions and trials. To the church that is willing to persevere, and remain faithful to Jesus, he has nothing but encouragement, and the promise of eternal reward.

What's the point of the human life? Where do we truly belong? Are we made for more than work and money, food and drink, pleasure and prizes? Genesis 2 helps to answer these questions.

Imagine hearing Jesus say to your church, "I have this against you". Imagine hearing it in a church that had steadfastly refused to compromise on the truth for decades. Yet, this is what Jesus said to the church in Ephesus. This is a passage reminding us that alongside faithfulness to God's Word, we must also have love for one another, and the world to which we are witnesses.

The only day that the Scriptures specifically tell us to keep "holy" is the Sabbath Day. But what does this mean? What is the significance of God resting on the seventh day, as Genesis describes it? And if our faith is in the risen Jesus, does the Sabbath command still have any relevance for us at all?

Think we're living through the first lockdown in church history? Think again! The Bible is actually full of stories of God's people separated from each other/locked down/imprisoned. Revelation begins with the apostle John in lockdown on Patmos, when he sees a glorious vision of Jesus. In our lockdown, we need to look at Jesus - and listen to him. SHOW LESS

Who am I? Why am I here? What does it mean to be human? Genesis answers these questions and in doing so gives us our purpose as human beings.

Every letter begins with a greeting; this one is unique! A greeting from God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to the faithful but struggling church on earth.

God made our world in all its beauty, splendour, detail and goodness. Though stained by our sin, God's work of creation is still a blessing for us to enjoy, and a reminder to us of the work of Jesus in our salvation.

Revelation is obsessed over and ignored in almost equal measure among Christians, but this shouldn't be the case! As the very first verse tells us, it is a book all about Jesus. Our world can be very troubling and often seems very chaotic, but this book reminds us that Jesus rules the world, that he is in control, and that he is coming soon. What better book to study in times like these!

The very first book (and the very first verse) of the Bible is foundational for everything that comes next. Genesis was first proclaimed in a culture very similar to ours, where the notion of one all-powerful God who created everything was rejected. Here, we consider the grounds for believing - and worshipping - the God of Genesis.

All kinds of churches preach all kinds of messages and carry out all kinds of activities. But what does a biblical church look like? What should be the hallmarks and priorities of the local church?

Why does the church exist? What is our purpose? Quite simply, to declare this one simple but life-changing truth!
