Doing Faith with Andrew Kulasingham

The Christian faith is an invitation to believe in a God who does impossible things. This week, we continue a two-part sermon on “believing the unbelievable”. We look at the story of Elizabeth in order to glean three principles on how to believe in the unbelievable?

Do you focus on the impossible or do you focus on the God of the impossible. This week we look at the connection between what we believe and what we confess. It’s an invitation to change your speaking patterns to remain in the environment of believing the unbelievable?

If we want to see the impossible made possible, there needs to be a big change in the way we think of God and the way we do life as a Christian. In this sermon, we are encouraged to think big but do small. Having a heavenly mindset about God possibilities but do life on earth where even the smallest things matter when done with eternity in mind. 

Transformational momentum is created when we live our lives where a single act you do in obedience to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, aligns with Divine intervention and produces something miraculous. This week we are encouraged to put one foot in front of the other, walk with God and see what God will do in and through us.

Time gives us context and context determines our action. Drawing from Ecclesiastes chapter 3, we will see three concepts of time from a Biblical perspective. Ecclesiastes tells us that without being aware of the Eternal time clock we will be oblivious of God’s plans and His workings around us. God is always working and He invites us to work alongside Him with Eternity in our hearts.

The Bible tells us we are to be people that draw others to Christ. Do we draw people to Christ or do we repel them away from Him? Are we a fragrance or a stench? This week we look at 2 Corinthians 2:14 where Paul says that we are the fragrance of Christ to both those who are being saved and those who are perishing. How much of an impact does our relationship with God have on the people around us? How active and effective are we in drawing people to Christ? Jesus was a magnet. He had such an incredible ability to draw people to God. He now calls us to be the same. God wants us to be God magnets.

The early christians were flawed just like us but they didn’t remain that way. Underlying their faith in Christ was the assurance that God accepted them as they were, but worked in them so they became like Jesus. This week’s message is a reminder that we are all under construction, so let’s treat one another with care.

The church has a tendency to huddle in groups, settle and get into our comfort zones. Yet the Great Commission instructs us to scatter, go everywhere, preach the gospel and make disciples. Drawing from the parable of the Good Samaritan, we look at what it takes to be a good neighbour wherever God scatters us throughout the week.

Religion is God in a neat package. If God can be completely defined then we are no longer talking about God. We are actually describing an idol. This week’s sermon challenges us not to limit God but to experience God afresh even if it gets a little messy. 

Your perspective will determine your practice. How you see things will determine how you respond to things. Change your perspective and you will change your practice. In Colossians 3:1-2, Paul encourages us to set our sights on the realities of heaven, to be alert to what is going on around Christ. In doing that we look at life through Kingdom perspective.

Hebrews 11 is the hall of fame list of the giants of our faith. We want to ask an important question: What was their faith? They all shared an understanding about faith that consisted of three elements described in Hebrews 11:1-3 that must become part of our understanding.

In this passage we see what it meant to the early church when they used the name Jesus in their ministry. As we continue in our series of being a church in the community, we look at the importance of knowing the answer to this question “By what power or by what name” we do what we do. 

How much of what church is today that’s non-essential? This week we look at the early church in Acts 2:42-43 to challenge our ideas of church. We want to strip away unhealthy concepts we hold on to that hinder us from being the change agents God has called us to be.

Are you a Consumer Christian or Passionate Disciple? The greatest hindrance to the concept “church in the community” is consumerism. We are not consumers, we are disciples. This message calls us back to be about our Father’s business – to seek and save the lost.

How do we transitioning from a mindset that “Church is on Sunday” to the concept “Church is everyday”? This week’s message looks at the birth of the early church in Acts 1:1-11 and how our mandate is to re-present Christ not as a church on Sunday but as a church in the community.

Worship is warfare. From events narrated in 2 Chronicles 20:1-22, we draw five lessons from Jehoshaphat and his response in the midst of a national crisis. In a crisis, worship is the strongest arsenal we have. Make sure it is in the forefront when you are facing your conflict. This message encourages us to do crisis with a song.
