Doctor Who: We're All Stories in the End

Arts EN ↓ 83 episodes

We're all just stories in the end. It's as true for the Doctor as it is for any of us. If, like me, you’ve grown up reading the Target novelisations, the Virgin New Adventures, the BBC Eighth Doctor Adventures, the New Series Adventures, and a whole heap of standalone fiction, then this is the show for you. I'm joined by some of the most interesting authors, editors and podcasters and each episode is devoted to one of the hundreds of Doctor Who books that have kept the TARDIS in flight when there's no new TV series in our immediate future... Endgame by Terrance Dicks (sort of...) 26.05.2024

Join myself and Dylan "Goddam" Rees from Too Hot For TV to pick the bones out of this cold-war spy thriller from the pen of Doctor Who 's greatest noveliser, Terrance Dicks. On the way, we also touch upon the related topics of whiskey, Justin Richards' careful padding, Axl Rose, 'Allo 'Allo! and Terrance's best-ever Doctor Who story. Hint: it isn't this one. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy...

Emotional Chemistry by Simon A. Forward 28.04.2024

Join Iain and friend-of-the-show D.K. for a freewheeling conversation about the Eighth Doctor Adventure Emotional Chemistry, written by Simon A. Forward and published by BBC Books in the year of our lord 2003. We ramble over a wide conversational area with unexpected mentions of Terrahawks, Star Fleet and the actress Eva Green, and we have our first meeting with the last companion to join the EDA...

Ea(s)ter of Wasps by Trevor Baxendale 31.03.2024

We're back to continue our journey through all things Virgin New Adventure and Eighth Doctor Adventures. This month, we're going back in time to a quiet village overrun with killer wasps and sentient nuclear bombs (a bit like Professor Bracewell in Victory of the Daleks , odd that...) Join Iain and Kevin to talk about this novel, and how Kevin is coping with all this reading he's undertaking... Ho...

Winter Special - The Specials! 28.01.2024

Join Iain and Harry (along with his former partner-in-nonsense Luke, just a homeless ex-podcaster now that WCCY is no more) as they discuss the four recent new episodes of television's Doctor Who : The Star Beast, Wild Blue Yonder, The Giggle, and The Church on Ruby Road, to prove a theory: that Doctor Who is divisive, that not everyone needs to enjoy every single story, and that none of our indiv...

Podswap! The Electric Sodcast 29.12.2023

Another chance to hear something new while I'm working on the Winter Special, which will be with you in January 2024. Until then, here's an episode of the comedy podcast I make with my podcast husband James. In the Songpoker episodes, we just chat about music, and since it's still Twixtmas, why not delve deep into the story of one of the biggest hits from the 1980's - Do They Know It's Christmas b...

Earthworld by Jacqueline Rayner 13.12.2023

Iain is joined by returning guest James for a detailed look at the struggling commercial performance of the EDA's and their plunging DWM poll scores in the early noughties, with DATA, STATS and EVIDENCE. Was Paul McGann's arrival in the Big Finish universe a hammer-blow to the BBC Books range? Was Earthworld truly the best choice for a reprint in the 2013 50th Anniversary reissues as the sole repr...

Dreamstone Moon by Paul Leonard 06.12.2023

This week's episode of We're All Stories in the End sees the unexpected return of Joe Ford, who -alone out of all humanity- was prepared to help out and guest on this episode, where in addition to discussing Dreamstone Moon, we also touch upon why no-one loves Samantha Jones, Camille from Red Dwarf , male pattern baldness, and the varying qualities of the covers produced for the EDA range. Joe's a...

Podswap! A Hamster with a Blunt Penknife 01.12.2023

Dominion by Nick Walters 29.11.2023

It's episode 11 of the current series of We're All Stories in the End, and I'm joined by Tom Baker, who played the fourth- eh? Bac on ? Oh. Oh I see. Yes, actually that makes more sense. I'm joined by Tom Bacon from Screen Rant to discuss a veritable plethora of wide-ranging issues such as: which Star Wars film was released in the same month as Dominion ? What did we make of Dominion ? What does T...

Demontage by Justin Richards 22.11.2023

On this week's episode of We're All Stories in the End, I'm joined by the utterly lovely Joe Ford (yes, him off of "Hamster With A Blunt Penknife") to discuss Demontage, by Justin Richards, an early (I mean, it's got Sam Jones in it) Eighth Doctor novel, and only the second adventure for new companion Fitz Kreiner. What do we make of Fitz, of Sam, of the portrayal of the Doctor, and what Mr Richar...

Deceit by Peter Darvill-Evans 15.11.2023

Join Tristan Alfaro (and myself) to discuss Deceit, the New Adventure written by range editor Peter Darvill-Evans. Damaged Goods by Russell T. Davies 25.10.2023

Welcome back to the show Dylan Rees, host of the brilliant Doctor Who: Too Hot For TV podcast , for this careful, scholarly and entirely serious review of the debut novel from little-known Welsh writer Russell T. Davies who would one day bring Doctor Who back to the screen and make it the most wonderful and popular thing ever. But not today. Today it's 1996 and we're talking about a very different...

Conundrum by Steve Lyons 18.10.2023

Join Iain (@seaoftranquilitylane on Threads) and returning honeybun Jon Arnold to discuss that most meta, post-modern and high-concept Virgin New Adventure novel, 1994's Conundrum by Steve Lyons, a book with heavy links to a Troughton-era Doctor Who classic, a book with superheroes, adventuring children, a serial killer, a private dick, a quiet village, and a deadly trap for the Time Lord. Also, f...

Coldheart by Trevor Baxendale 11.10.2023

Join Iain and young Harry from the Who Can Convince You? podcast to discuss Trevor Baxendale's slimy thriller Coldheart from the EDA range. I'll be honest: we don't go into too much depth, due to tangents, diversions, nonsense and bumfoolery. But this episode is a good example of how to disagree agreeably... Follow @seaoftranquilitylane on Threads Need to buy any New Adventures or EDA's? Contact K...

Christmas On a Rational Planet by Lawrence Miles 04.10.2023

Hellfire and Sodomy! Jon Arnold joins me to talk about our memories of reading Lawrence Miles' debut novel, originally published in the summer of 1996. Meet Matheson Catcher, the Watchmakers, the Chirurgeons, the foul-mouthed Erskine Morris, and not forgetting the villainous Carnival Queen. And a fair number of tangents and diversions. All this and Kevin too, by Satan's Cock! Follow @seaoftranquil...

Cat's Cradle: Witch Mark by Andrew Lane 27.09.2023

Join guest James and host Iain (@seaoftranquilitylane on threads) for episode two of our "sophomore" season. God, I used to hate reading that expression. But I digress. We're here to talk about the gripping climax of the Cat's Cradle trilogy and James has amassed DATA and EVIDENCE to support his diverse hypotheses. You're in for an hour of two men with a lot in common wittering away about a Doctor...

Join Jason and me for a terrifying, breathless moonlit race across the moors as we experience Kylie Minogue's favourite Doctor Who novel, Camera Obscura by Lloyd Rose. It's one of the best. But then I would say that, wouldn't I? Because I'm Sabbath. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Blood Heat by Jim Mortimore 01.03.2023

Join me, Ryan Blake from Wibbley-Wobbley Dicey-Wicey, Kevin, Andrew, David and James for this broad and deep dive into 1993's Virgin New Adventure Blood Heat . We've got lots to discuss: A parallel Earth conquered by the Silurians, humanity teetering on the brink of extinction, the death of the Doctor, the return of the Brigadier, Jo Grant, Liz Shaw and Sgt. Benton, the disappointingly brief appea...

Blood Harvest by Terrance Dicks 02.02.2023

Aukon's Winky! The mighty Dylan Rees joins us to talk about Terrance Dicks' 1995 vampire novel Blood Harvest, a Virgin New Adventure. Owing to the show's simple format, we basically just talk about it for a bit. For those of you who aren't so invested in spin-off fiction from Doctor Who , our many other tangents include: Mugabe and Pertwee by the pool, craft beer, the alcoholic Time Lord they call...
