Delayed Replay

To those of you looking on the website, yes, the pic is from Star Trek: Picard. It shows the Anaheim Convention Center, so it seemed funny yet somehow fitting, especially since Star Trek is mentioned in this. Anyway, the episode covering Star Wars Celebration 2020 was so long that I ended up having to divide it into two parts for the podcast feeds. Here on Part 1, you will hear a session where I r...

On this episode, I was joined by Mark Hurliman from The Star Wars Report and Star Wars Beyond the Films podcasts. We talked about The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, the sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard. We talked about the humor, the action, and how well Ryan Reynolds, Salma Hayek, and Samuel L. Jackson were utilized. Plus, we went on a tangent about McDonald’s! (Sadly, this show is not sponsored by t...

On this special episode, I was joined once again by Chris Abbott (Starrapter), and we talked about Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi. Released on August 25, this novel by Charles Soule started The High Republic publishing initiative, which presents stories set 200 years before The Phantom Menace. Though we finished reading the book quickly, it took a while for this episode to come ou...

Taking a break from horror (for now), here is an episode about Minions: The Rise of Gru. Kiyan from the Decorative Vegetable podcast network joined me for this one. We talked about how this prequel compared to other Despicable Me films and how weird the branding is. (Naturally, I used Star Wars for the sake of an analogy.) Plus, we went on tangents, including our hot takes on Stranger Things and T...

At last, an episode about the ninth installment of the saga. No, not The Rise of Skywalker. Try again. No, we already did F9. Sorry to keep you in SAW-spense, but it’s Spiral: From the Book of Saw. That installment of the SAW-ga where Osmosis Jones is Zeke Banks and Mace Windu is his dad Marcus Banks. Yes, we went on those tangents. I was joined by Andres Serrano, of course, seeing how we were sti...

So. Andres Serrano and I found ourselves trapped in an escape room. To get out, we had to talk about Escape Room 2. Is this a win for us? Listen and find out! We talk about what kinda worked, what really didn’t work, and how we would feel if there were a third movie. (Spoiler: They don’t get to Manhattan, so I guess they added padding here to save that location for a possible third movie.) Also, t...

What would YOU have titled the new Candyman movie? Was it confusing to you as well that, despite being in the same continuity, it has the same title as the first one? Andres Serrano is back to guest host on this one. He’d seen only the first one before this one (which mainly continues a thread from the first one). I’ve seen all three and I recap them for him before we dive into our thoughts on thi...

Welcome to the afterlife. Is Delayed Replay your heaven? YOU decide! Thirteenth movie, and it’s about Ghostbusters: Afterlife. I feel like I should make a Thirteen Ghosts reference. (Never seen it.) Joey Mays joined me for this review after recently collaborating with The Intergalactic Peace Coalition Podcast on their Ghostbusters episodes. Joey has been a Ghostbusters fan pretty much all his life...

Once again, all aboard the 1980s nostalgia hype train (plane?). This time, it’s Top Gun: Maverick, which came out in June and turned out to not be as reliant on nostalgia as other media. Some callbacks are there, as I discuss with Vinny Tangherlini, who has long been a big fan of the first film. Listen to our conversation about this new one, complete with occasional tangents! Show Notes: 8:40 - Ti...

Silence the Jurassic Park theme song, as this is about something from a different park. I wouldn’t be able to feature the song anyway for copyright reasons. That’s how copyright works when it comes to podcasts, right? I’m still not 100% sure. Anyway, it’s Jungle Cruise, not to be confused with Julee Cruise. Here with me to review it is Dylan Green, who has co-hosted multiple podcasts over at Decor...

Movie episode ten. Naturally, Tenet had to be the one for this episode. Guesting on this episode is another Channel 1138 podcaster: Ben Hart the Star Wars Guy! He’s the founder of the Star Wars Underworld, one of hosts of the Intergalactic Peace Coalition podcast, and does social media stuff for the entertainment news site Culture Slate! (I’ve been helping out with that too, and I feel like I have...

F9. What a title. Maybe in this instance, the “F” stands for “family,” because they like throwing that word around a lot in these movies. Speaking of family, my cousin Leslie joined me for this review of the film. We talk about John Cena’s role, the ridiculous spectacles, a possible crossover that may be happening, among other things. We recorded this on Michelle Rodriguez’s birthday and are relea...

You’ve probably never heard of this game. It’s fine if you haven’t. Not all movie tie-in games are bad, but this one was just very…not good. Anyway, it’s Fast & Furious Crossroads, a video game that came out last May and takes place before F9. Fellow Channel 1138 podcaster Jeffery White joined me in this discussion of the shortcomings of this game. Also, it turned out that we recorded this on Nati...

This episode has spoilers. Like, for real. But I’ve included time stamps in the show notes so that anyone afraid of spoilers can navigate around them. As my friend Andres Serrano suggested, we had a fun discussion about The Walking Dead #193, which would’ve been a perfect ending had it not been for the three issues that came after. We only spent a few minutes talking about those. They’re that bad....

This episode is FREE*! It’s opening weekend for Free Guy, and I talked with my friend Hayley about this fun video game movie about an NPC who becomes sentient! How does it compare to other media with similar premises? What shout-outs did we spot? What did we think of the Fortnite dances? Listen to this review by Delayed Replay! *Just like all the other episodes. Hayley’s Cosplays: Instagram Delaye...

It’s the end of an era. (For the Daniel Craig movies, not for this podcast.) On this review episode for No Time to Die, the James Bond movie released in April, I was joined by Joe Coffey (whose birthday is today)! He and his family have a James Bond podcast called Bond with Coffey. Together for this crossover of sorts, he and I talk about possible crossovers every now and then as we dissect No Tim...

I didn’t say this within the episode, but the title of the movie sucks. The first film was called The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie, and The SpongeBob Movie became the umbrella title for the next two films. Plus, it was so hard for me distinguish between Sponge Out of Water and Sponge on the Run. Anyway, this movie came out toward the end of May. With me on this episode is my friend Cris, bassist of...

This is a different type of episode. Since it’s a video game and not a movie, it’s not included in the numbering, but it’s still canon. Never mind that there was no build-up for this episode. SURPRISE! It’s Aspyr’s remastered version of Star Wars Episode I: Racer, a topic suggested by my guest on this episode, Jeffery White from a couple other podcasts on Channel 1138 called Hype Function and Mani...

People say, “No remakes!” Then they see them in theaters, as if to say, “Yes remakes!” Some want the same, some want different. It can be a losing battle. Much like the battles that me and my friend Chris (Starrapter) recall in this review of the live-action Mulan remake from Disney, which was released worldwide last March. This is pretty much Chris’ first Mulan movie, whereas I’ve seen Disney’s a...

No need for #ReleaseTheShinderCut. This is the only cut you’re getting. The recording is long, and maybe there’s some extraneous stuff, and there’s some bleeped out words. But hey, edgy and extended is what the fans want regardless of the quality, right? Anyway, here’s me and my friend Elbert Guico reviewing Wonder Woman 1984 right after it came out. We talk about the movie, Wonder Woman in other...

Three phases have come and gone, but Marvel has finally given Black Widow her own movie! On this episode, my friend Nathan Brown and I talked about our favorite parts of the movie, how well the character dynamics worked, the homages, and…Bee Movie?? Give this a listen to find out our thoughts on Black Widow and more! Nathan's Rec: #SixSeasonsAndAMovie - If you know, then you're streets ahead. If y...

This is it. The end of Fox’s X-Men film series. Many people thought that it would never come out, but The New Mutants was finally released on ̶A̶p̶r̶i̶l̶ ̶1̶3̶,̶ ̶2̶0̶1̶8̶ ̶F̶e̶b̶r̶u̶a̶r̶y̶ ̶2̶2̶,̶ ̶2̶0̶1̶9̶ ̶A̶u̶g̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶2̶,̶ ̶2̶0̶1̶9̶ April 3, 2020! Now we can finally talk about it! Joining me on this episode is Zac Arnold of the Intergalactic Peace Coalition podcast. Listen to us go over the c...

We’ve been silent long enough, but now we’re talking movies! Welcome to Delayed Replay. I had my good friend Andres Serrano as a guest on this episode where we reviewed A Quiet Place Part II, released worldwide on March 18, 2020. How well does this sequel stack up against the phenomenal first film? Does the horror work with the comedic elements that were thrown in? Listen and hear our thoughts on...
