The Brilliant Calculator is an unlikely and empowering STEM illustrated story about Edith Clarke, a woman who invented something that few of us will use, but all of us take advantage of. 

One Cool Duck is a graphic novel series aimed at very young readers. King of Cool is the first entry in it that’ll charm pre-k and up.  

Tales of Ancient Worlds: Adventures in Archeology is the armchair compendium that every erstwhile fourth-grade Indiana Jones needs to show them the light.  

Hardy Boys Adventures: The Smuggler’s Legacy is a fast-paced, mystery that has the hallmarks of its namesake, but is updated for today’s readers.  

The Amazing Spider-Man, Web-Slinger, Hero, Icon is a coffee table, encyclopedic book that examines many of the web heads best story arcs in the comic books.

Abandon Ship! Is the true story of the sinking of the RMS Laconia, the passenger’s rescue by the sub that sank her, the peril-and survival that some had. 

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is surprisingly fun and breezy. It’s aware that it’s an underdog and will entertain families for a chunk of time. 

The Sublime Ms. Stacks preaches to the choir, whichever one you’re on, and will fire up the other side, which might be the point. 

Bug Scouts Camp Out! is the second graphic novel in this very funny series that speaks to pre-k through second grade readers.  

Mission Multiverse: Doppelganger Danger tries to pick up the zest and fun of its predecessor, but gets bogged down in a predictable alternate world mglit.

Science Sleuth & Solve 20+ Mind-Twisting Mysteries offers up curious, but solvable STEM puzzles for kids via art and text. 

The Cat The Owl And The Fresh Fish has all of the elements of a classic fable, but its use of cursive might belie its timeless intentions. 

I Am Coco, The Life of Coco Chanel is a graphic novel that looks at the icon’s life in a way that makes non-fashion folks interested.  

Ready-To-Read Super Gross, What’s in Your Body? perfectly sets up and answers STEM things that first through third graders want to read and talk about. 

Outside Chance, the second book in the Don’t Doubt The Rainbow series is smart YA that also satisfies mglit fans with action, mystery and realistic fiction. 

A Bucket of Questions is not a reference book. Instead, it’s a silly, absurd illustrated book that’s intent on having fun and encouraging kids to ask questions. 

Battle Bunny is a children’s book that exemplifies the 3-99 age recommendation. It takes a corny book, has a kid graffiti it up, adding details to the faux plot and making it a classic for the ages. 

Seen And Unseen combines photographs from three perspectives with illustrations and text in a thought-provoking look at Manzanar and Japanese American incarceration in the 1940s. 

Foldout Anatomy is an interactive, fold-out book that looks at the systems that keep living things alive in a manner that is fun and educational. 

Inner Workings is a how-it’s-made book that’ll preach to the STEM, engineering crowd, but could’ve yelled at everyone with more narrative.   

Aliens is an illustrated-reference book of sorts that is more about the process and worlds of space exploration but is still great for ages seven and up.
