Life is in the Blood 26.02.2014
One of the foundational realities of the finished work of Jesus is that the "life is in the blood". This concept has its roots in the Torah, the first five books of your Bible. Leviticus 17 is entirely about the blood laws and they have surprising implications for our Christian faith today.
Yom Kippur 19.02.2014
Holiness is our third and final series in the book of Leviticus. God desires us to be holy as He is. This section begins with an astonishing reality, that by ourselves, we are not holy. There was one day each year that the Jewish people set apart to confess their unholiness to God and each other. There was a special sacrifice offered to forgive transgressions. That is the Day of Atonement (Yom Kip...
Emissions Check 29.01.2014
Leviticus 15 closes out our Cleansing series. As we have been seeing throughout the book of Leviticus, God is concerned for the health and well-being of His people. Not only is He concerned for their spiritual well-being, God is caring for the whole person within the covenant community. This chapter deals frankly with various bodily emissions of both men and women. We will also see the cleansing r...
Cleansing for Blemishes 15.01.2014
Leviticus 14 is the companion chapter for Leviticus 13. We will see the cleansing and reintegration ritual for those who have formally been declared unclean. A beautiful application of this chapter is the fact that God accepts again back into the covenant community when we have been away because of our uncleanness. This points us to God's love and grace.
Blemishes 08.01.2014
As we continue our Cleansing series in the book of Leviticus, we now move to diseases of the skin, including the much discussed leprosy. God's continued concern for the health and well-being of His children is again on display. God uses the priests as health officials. As we continue to find in Leviticus, there is much application for the contemporary follower of Jesus.
Looking Back, Pressing Forward 29.12.2013
For the Crossroads community, this year has been nothing short of extraordinary. God has done so much in our midst. It would be unbelievable if we didn’t believe in the God of the possible! Looking back and pressing forward is the perfect year-end message for us as a family of faith and as individuals. As we rejoice in what God has done, we will also be encouraged to press forward into the new yea...
Birth Rituals 11.12.2013
As we continue in our Cleaning series the focus now shifts to one of the most common experiences for humanity, the birth of a child. While a most exciting happening for a family, it is also a time of great concern for the well being of the mother and child. God, in His love for His people, has a plan to protect mother, child and the community.
To Eat or Not To Eat 04.12.2013
The role of the priests was to help the people understand the difference between the pure and the impure, the holy and the unholy. The entire sacrificial system was based on the need to maintain purity and holiness. We eat to sustain our lives. Leviticus 11 gives us the unique dietary restrictions for the children of Israel.
Special Fire 27.11.2013
The priestly ministry began with a powerful example of God's approval. Fire consumed the offering and the people shouted and fell on their faces. It was a powerful moment. But quickly the situation devolved. Two of Aaron's sons began to follow the dictates of their own hearts with dire consequences.
The Messy Warrior 24.11.2013
Our Life is Messy series, through the book of Ephesians, comes to a close this week. It has been an amazing journey as we have continually seen Jesus as Lord over the mess. We have seen who God is and how God works. We have seen how we are meant to live in light of God’s love and grace. Our series closes with an unsettling reality: that we are in a spiritual battle. Because there is a battle ragin...
So It Begins 20.11.2013
Leviticus chapter 9 marks the official beginning of the priestly ministry. God had given extensive instructions on how He was to be worshiped. The priests were formally consecrated and cleansed. Now the ministry begins.
