Creativity Wasted
Creativity Wasted is a podcast where a group of creative people get together, and we each share an idea that we're not planning on pursuing in real life, such as an invention idea that's outside our area of expertise, a futuristic sci-fi movie idea, or an evil prank idea. And rather than just letting the idea quietly slip away, we get some fun out of it by joking about it together.

Government Prostitution Service (Josh Courtnay) 13.11.2020 8:58
Idea (NSFW): A government service to pay for prostitutes for young men to improve their mental health and reduce the amount of sexual assault. Also: On the downside, men might lose ambition and just "live off the government tit"; this service might be politically viable in Alaska because the population is like 70% male Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 49 Seth Addison (instagram.com/sexadd...
Rabid Fandom Extraction Service (Pat Sievert) 13.11.2020 13:05
Idea: A service to help you get rid of an unhealthy or unwanted fandom. In other words, make you hate what you don't want to love anymore. Also: The service is not reversible, but it can make you dislike everything else more, so you're more depressed overall, but you feel like the fandom has returned; using your rabid fandom to annoy less rabid fans out of their fandom and then collecting their fa...
Fake Death Metal Band Mockumentary (Seth Addison) 13.11.2020 12:02
Idea: Seth looks like a guy who would be in a metal band. He got so sick of trying to convince people he's not in a band, he started telling people he was in a fake band so they'd walk away happy. His idea is a mockumentary about an aspiring metal vocalist with no talent who lies and says that he started a metal band, but, unlike the real Seth, he books gigs and hypes up the band on the Internet a...
Office Privacy Chair (Tom Walma) 13.11.2020 5:08
Idea: An office chair with privacy attachments, such as an umbrella above your head and curtains that loop around the umbrella and possibly also loop around your monitor. Also: low walls in cubicles are torture because tall people lack privacy and can be constantly distracted by movement in the corner of their eyes Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 48 Nick Pizzuti (facebook.com/nick.pizzut...
Perfect Companions SciFi Movie (Tom Walma) 13.11.2020 13:03
Idea: A Black-Mirror-like sci-fi movie where a tech genius with the goal of "ending grief" creates robots for people to use specifically (and only) for replacing loved ones, such as after a death or a divorce. But parents use the robots to replace their living children who are disappointments with idealized versions of their children, neglecting their real children, and then chaos ensues. Also: A...
Long Johns & Donut Hos (Ashley Stommen) 13.11.2020 6:56
Idea: A strip club for couples which has both male strippers and female strippers. They could be in different rooms, in the same room but on different stages, or together on the same stage. Also, instead of having gross strip club food, it'd contain a bakery with adult-themed cakes. Also: donut glaze/sprinkles instead of glitter; stripper songs Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 48 Nick Piz...
XBox Live But Without Kids (Kyle Forsyth) 13.11.2020 10:12
Idea: "XBox Live" without kids, so you don't have to deal with kids screaming into microphones, acting like jerks for no reason, ruining teams by being not good or too good, and otherwise being annoying. Also: longing for the "Children of Men" movie to be real; racist slurs being rampant in online first-person shooter games Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 48 Nick Pizzuti (facebook.com/ni...
Emotional Strength Bully Defense Training (Nick Pizzuti) 13.11.2020 13:29
Idea: Emotional strength training to cope with bullying, and also teaching and practicing tactics for responding to bullying, such as responding with humorous insults. Also: we awkwardly and reluctantly "bully" Nick so he can demonstrate how he would respond; an emotionally-charged debate on how society should deal with bullying Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 48 Nick Pizzuti (facebook.c...
Social Toy Drones (Tom Walma) 13.11.2020 8:43
Idea (NSFW, dark humor): Flying a toy drone with a videocamera on it is like playing a videogame where nothing fun happens. A videodrone would be much funner if it had a speaker and a screen to show your face, that way you could do social things with real people and other videodrones. Examples include games like hide-and-seek, guided sky tours, drone charging "forts", kids using the drones to play...
Island For Criminals (Tim Hill) 13.11.2020 13:41
Idea (NSFW, dark humor): An island to send criminals for the rest of their life where they'll be left alone to fend for themselves. Also: cannibalism would be common because modern criminals don't know how to fish; weapons companies could airdrop weapons onto the island and sponsor livestream videos of criminals using the weapons; volunteers could enter the island to commit revenge on a criminal b...
Consent Detector Implantable Device (Kevin Smith) 13.11.2020 9:45
Idea (NSFW, dark humor): A sci-fi device implanted in women which detects the intense fear and emotions of sexual assault and automatically alerts the authorities. Or a sci-fi device implanted in men which incapacitates them if they attempts sexual assault, thus making sexual assault impossible. Also: questioning whether it would be falsely triggered by nightmares or scary movies; questioning whet...
Kale for the Homeless (Matti Yaari) 12.11.2020 13:38
Inspired by a standup comedy premise that kale tastes so bad that hungry/homeless people wouldn't take it, the idea is a charity that gives raw kale (and only kale) to the homeless. It'd supply nutrients that the homeless don't get from handouts on the street (snacks, fast food, food from street vendors), assuming that we can convince the homeless to actually eat it. Also: questioning whether it w...
Cam Dogs (Joel Fragomeni) 05.11.2020 13:22
Idea: A web site where you can interact with a real dog virtually via a webcam, and also control robotics to feed the dog, pet the dog, and play with the dog (such as by throwing a ball). Possible customers include lonely elderly people, people in hospitals, people who are allergic to dogs or live in places where dogs aren't allowed, people in public (traveling or at work or school) who need to re...
ELECTION BONUS IDEA Everybody Runs For President (Tom Walma) 04.11.2020 9:10
Idea: A giant tournament bracket in which everybody in the US runs for president. Each contest in the bracket consists of 8 candidates, and the winner among the 8 candidates advances to the next round. Each voter only votes for one 8-person contest per round. There are 10 rounds in total, and in the final round, everyone votes to determine who of the 8 final candidates becomes president. Also: hor...
Socialburn Foldable Phone (Tom Walma) 29.10.2020 10:30
Idea: A device which looks like a smart phone but only contains WiFi for talking directly with your friends' socialburn devices. It is used for slow but secure social networking which can never reach the Internet. Messages and posts bounce from friend to friend when friends are in the same room with each other, eventually reaching all of your friends or a specific friend who is the target of the m...
Plan A Party In Paradise (Tom Walma) 22.10.2020 10:26
Vacations get boring after a while because they're purely a consumption of experiences. They lack the social satisfaction of helping people or giving joy to people. An idea to help vacationers give joy to other people (and therefore be less bored) is for resorts to organize an activity where vacationers help throw parties for other vacationers. Also: "Airbnb Experiences", why RPG videogames are mo...
Historical Concept Societies (Tom Walma) 18.10.2020 11:58
Idea: To create societies of 100,000+ people who loosely live the lifestyle of a historical era (but with flushing toilets), including both the popular culture and the technology of the era. That way, they can make money on tourism, and if a huge global disaster occurs, and we lose all electricity or all computers or something, we have a large supply of people who know how to do stuff using older...
Old-Time Radio Storytelling Podcast (Josh Bowab) 18.10.2020 9:12
Idea: A podcast for telling original short stories (fiction stories told from start to finish in a single episode), like a modern version of old storytelling radio shows from the 1940s. Also: A failed attempt to improvise a story with the aide of a cheap sound-effect machine Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 46 David Shank (twitter.com/broken_knuckle_ twitter.com/SDWSU) Jason Spitsbergen (...
Generic Gig App With Job Training (Jason Spitsbergen) 18.10.2020 8:30
Idea: Most education and job training is completely unnecessary. You could train almost anybody to do almost any job, like surgery, in under 30 days. So we should reduce training for most jobs by like 90% to allow people to do them as "gigs" using an Uber-like app, with job training built into the app. Also: the "gig economy" might kill drug dealing because now you can do a couple small gigs and s...
Superfi Dating App (David Shank) 18.10.2020 11:37
Idea: A dating app which allows you to select potential dates solely by physical characteristics. You select body type, hair color, height, etc. kind of like you're designing a character in a videogame. You can also prioritize and filter out physical characteristics. For example: you prefer blondes over redheads, and want to filter out all of the brunettes. Also: if you're too picky, there's a goo...
Hurricane-Proof Housing Ideas (Tom Walma) 18.10.2020 9:17
Ideas for hurricane-proof housing by myself and others, including floating houses in water-filled holes, "indoor tiny house(s)" that reside inside a full-sized house or skyscraper or standalone "shell" (like an iPhone case for a house) which can be towed away with your stuff inside if a hurricane comes (leaving the shell behind), houses where most of your stuff is continuously wheeled in and out o...
Rapid-Response Meme Ad Agency (Bryan Harrison) 18.10.2020 8:29
Idea: An ad agency that quickly detects Internet memes and shoots TV commercials using that meme within a couple hours to be aired on TV that same day. Also: An external company could detect these Internet memes and sell that info to ad agencies and other companies; TV commercials based on memes that failed because they didn't air until months after the meme was stale Originally from Creativity Wa...
Vigilante Cop and Lawyer TV Show (Ron Rigby) 18.10.2020 10:19
Idea: A TV show where a police chief and defense attorney conspire to cause guilty defendants to be found innocent so they can murder them. They'd use high-tech tools to perform the murders and get away with it. Also: questioning whether PC culture steers people towards darker TV shows to vent their anger Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 45 Ondrej Balas (twitter.com/ondrejbalas) Ron Rigby...
Gamify Manual Labor (Ondrej Balas) 18.10.2020 9:52
Idea: The time spent doing repetitive tasks to gather health or money inside a videogame could instead control a real-life robot doing a real job in real life, such as stacking grocery store shelves. Also: If a real-life grocery-stacking robot scared a mother and caused her to drop her baby, you'd lose points in the game; a game like "Rollercoaster Tycoon" where you're controlling a real company b...
24-Hour Service Shops with Scheduling App in Grocery Stores (Tom Walma) 18.10.2020 4:20
Idea: To put 24-hour service shops (haircuts, banks, cafes, pharmacies, primary care doctors, Japanese vending machines, etc.) in grocery stores and have an app for customers to schedule these services before they come in. Customers will come to the store for the service and buy groceries while they're there. Also: grocery delivery will kill grocery stores unless they transition to being a destina...
