Cowboy Jim‘s Stories Around the Campfire

Roundups, branding, moving cattle and riding horses are all part of the cowboy;s life.  It's hard work and still can be a lot of fun.  Very few things are a cool as being a cowboy.

Someone has said don't let college get in the way of your education.  Part of my learning included good friends and some great pranks.  Some done to me and others that I gleefully committed.  Hope you enjoy these stories of fun days and funny times.

We have all probably been turned around at one time or another.  When you're in the woods or camping getting lost or turned around can be pretty scary.  Sometimes it is exciting, many times you are just glad you found out where you are and got home safely.  It also leads to some rescues of others at times and that always feels good.

I lovve to fish.  I may not be the best fisherman in the world, but I do have a lot of fun and some great stories.  Maine has some great fishing and some funny moments.  Sorry about the fish, Buck....

It seems like that I spend a lot of time in the rain when I am camping or backpacking.  That;s not always the case but there are some pretty great adventures when I've been camping in the rain, the cold and the mud.

More adventures with Bull Durham, our fun and crazy dog.  He was a mutt with the greatest personality any dog ever had.  This was the dog who grinned and made life fun and funny on the ranch.

Over the years I've had lots of encounters with various wild animals.  They are magnificent and fun to watch.  Some were close and some were farther away but all show the wonderful creation that they are. 

Some pranks that were played down through the years in camps, backpacking and other places.  There were lots more that will be told about later.

Kids camping can always be full of adventures.  Here are a few stories of us with our kids in great camping adventures, thunderstorms, washed out roads and long hikes.  Also some interesting campsites we have known.

Sometimes there are campers that are just different than you expect.  Sometimes they are funny and sometimes challenging but always will keep you on your toes.  They are a great resource for unusual stories.

Raccoons can be a big distraction when you're camping or dealing with them on the ranch.  Throw in a few chickens and dogs and you can have quite a mess.

Stories about some very cold weather situations I have been in over the years.  You might want to wrap up in a blanket before you listen!

Some stories of my family heritage from both my Dad's and Mom's sides.  Wagon trains, posse's, muleskinners and ranchers.  No wonder I turned out the way I did.

We had and used a lot of different horses on the ranches we had.  They each had their own personalities and idiosyncrasies.   I loved being a cowboy and have lots of good stories with our horses.  Enjoy these adventures with me.

We've all had those moments when we did something and it turns out to not be such a great idea.  We say,"Oops".  Someone has said it is the worst word in the English language.  These are some of my "oops" moments down through the years.  This is only the beginning!
