This went through my mind this morning during our mahi as kaitiaki of the sand dunes at Cooks Beach. While removing a range of taru kino weeds, I thought about how the whenua is slowly healing from past harm.  www.coromind.nz

If you have been to Tairua, you may have noticed branding on the shops and facilities with ‘Two Tides’, which is the English translation of Tairua. The first settlers, Polynesian ancestors of Māori, were elated by its sheltered harbour; it was one of the first places in New Zealand to be colonised. www.coromind.nz

The Coromind crew visits Allan Beaver’s studio in Coromandel Town on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Allan produces landscapes in oils, portraits in pastels, and freehand pencil sketches. His wife Loes creates handcrafts, knitting and tapestry. www.coromind.nz

Each month, one copy of Coromind will be preserved in the Alexander Turnbull Library, the national research and heritage collection. A second copy joins the general New Zealand and Pacific collection. Caitlin Moloney and Matt Sephton Find a Different Rhythm in Samoa: Earlier this year, Caitlin Moloney and I were fortunate to spend time at the Tiapapata Art Centre in Samoa for an artist residency.  www.coromind.nz

Sarah Jamieson has the same first name as me and grew up in the same area. We used to work at the same dairy. There is one obvious difference between us, however: I left and she stayed. www.coromind.nz

Kathleen Veronica Cummings (08/01/1891 - 14/07/1948) was a New Zealand painter, and a student of Charles Goldie. Her work, Portrait of a Māori Woman , is part of the collection of the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki. In 2020 an oil on canvas of Harata Rewiti Tarapata , circa 1910, sold for $32,000 at auction. www.coromind.nz

My work has always carried a thread of New Zealand nature and the passing of time, with themes of nostalgia running through.
