Jesus says, “Come to me, all you that are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” One of the burdens we carry is the need to justify ourselves, to prove to others (and ourselves) that we have value. When we feel pain because those we love are in pain, we are sharing in the suffering of Christ, who loves and cares for all people. And when we share in his suffering, he shares in ours. Many people find that they lack the resolve or the willpower to maintain a spiritual practice.
