Hardship, sorrow, and suffering are all a part of the human experience. As Paul is writing this letter from prison, he reminds his readers that our hope is not in ourselves but rather the good news is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Through Jesus, we are able to rejoice even in suffering and to see our sorrows used to point others to the hope we have in Him.

In the section known as the hymn of Jesus or the Song of Jesus, Paul speaks to who Jesus is. Paul also reminds us that when we have a right understanding of Jesus we better understand who we are in Him.

When a light switch is flipped, it exposes the dark and brings about new possibilities. Paul speaks to the transforming power of being transferred from the domain of darkness into the Kingdom of light. His prayer is that not only would we know this, but that we would live this, experience this, and bear the fruit of this.
