As we ponder why the angels announced the birth of Christ to the shepherds we can learn a principle of personal revelation. And as we watch the shepherds reactions to the announcement of the birth of Christ, we learn how we can approach opportunities to come to know the Savior. 

Every single day, multiple times a day, we make choices that determine if we will have room for the Savior. As we become intentional about the things that invite Him in, we will always have room for Christ.

Today we are going to talk about the 3rd aspect of "Moroni's Promise." The past two days we have talked about what we have to do, today we are going to talk about what the Lord can do for us. SPOILER ALERT: It's A LOT!

Often, when we talk about Moroni's Promise found in chapter 10 we place our focus on verses 4-5, and for good reason, they are wonderfully powerful verses. But if we jump straight to those verses we miss out on the opportunity to strengthen our testimonies of who God is and one of His most defining characteristics.

I love the 3 main points of this chapter! Faith IN Christ, Hope BECAUSE OF Christ, and Love LIKE Christ! Today we will take a look at what Charity is, how we can better recognize if we have developed this attribute, but we will also discuss what the pure love of Christ is, and how it can change us. 

Elder Uchtdorf teaches that faith hope and charity are like a 3 legged stool. As we study the teachings of Mormon here in chapter 7 we see that that is true. However, Mormon points all 3 virtues to Christ. Faith IN Christ. Hope BECAUSE OF Christ. And love LIKE Christ. As we strive for all three virtues we are changed BY Christ.

I love the phrase where it says that Christ is the "author and finisher of our faith." Our testimony of the Savior should be the beginning and the end of our testimonies. In the scriptures when something is finished or complete, it means that it is whole. Without faith in Christ, without a testimony of who He is and His divinity our testimonies cannot be made whole. The words sacrifice and sacrament have the same root, SACER, which means to make holy. Just as they used the law of sacrifice in the old testament to become holy,  we can use the sacrament each week to become more like the Savior. As we approach the sacramental altar each week with the sacrifice of a broken heart and contrite spirit we can better take His name upon us.

Have you ever wondered why the 2 sacrament prayers are different? If it was the same covenant and same promise being made with each prayer you would think they would be worded the same, right? But they aren't, they are different. And I think the differences in the prayers can teach us a lot about Heavenly Father's intentions. 

As Moroni clarifies some of the teachings of the Savior from 3rd Nephi, there is a really cool principle that is taught between the lines. In verse 2 the Savior gives His disciples the authority to confer the gift of the Holy Ghost, however, He makes a point of telling them that they have to do something to obtain the POWER to do it. Moroni, surprised that he is still around tells us that he will continue to write with the hopes that it will be of worth. Which begs the question, what is the Book of Mormon worth to you? 

Moroni shows us his "ALL IN" attitude here in this chapter. He has been wandering for 36 years, not knowing if the next day was the day he would be discovered by the Lamanites and killed because he had made the determination that he would never deny his faith. In little ways, you and I make decisions everyday that determine where our allegiance lies. Let us always choose the cause of Christ. 

There are several times in the book of Ether where Ether asks Coriantumr to repent, and to call his people to repentance. I am sure that never, in any of those moments, did Coriantumr think, "this is it. This is the decision that will lead to millions of my people being killed." Our choices don't work like that. Usually the choices that will determine the big outcomes are made in the small moments...

We are lucky! Because Moroni didn't know how long he would live before he was killed we get a few different farewell talks from him. Verses 38-41 are one of those farewells and they are PHENOMENAL!
