I am beginning to see a theme in the word that the Lord speaks to those who are wanting to build His kingdom. He has similar verbiage to those who are being called, but the sentiment is the same. If you are going to teach of Christ, it is important that we become more like Christ. It His work, done His way, by His people.  

Here in this revelation to Joseph Knight, the Lord compares His word to a 2 edge sword. But what the heck does that mean? And how can that help us understand the value of the word of God in our lives?

As we begin Section 12, let's look at the man section 12 was revealed for. Joseph knight is another unsung hero of the early church.

I feel like it is a guide book of what to do if the Lord asks us to wait for the blessings that we are seeking.  1st- Learn to recognize, trust and respond to the Holy Ghost. 2nd- Cleave unto Him. 3rd- Obey the commandments. 4th- Obtain the word. In these verses, Hyrum Smith is promised a gift that can be ours as well. However, there were certain things that the Lord told him he needed to do in order to obtain truth from the Spirit. As we seek the blessings of God it is important that we are doing the things that He would have us do, in order to obtained the desired blessings that He has promised. 

Today, as we look at the first revelation given for Hyrum Smith, we will take a closer look at who he was, and what the Lord told him as he desired to join in the work.

In section 9 the Lord tells Oliver that he didn't receive what he had prayed for because he did nothing to receive it except to ask for it. I believe that the Lord delights in blessing His children, HOWEVER, I also believe that the Lord's primary purpose is to GROW His children. Even though section 7 is packed with amazing doctrines, I believe that one of the greatest things we can learn from from it is that God reveals his doctrines to the prophet. That men no longer have to speculate, debate and vote upon important doctrines, but that God can and will reveal it. As we pray to our Father in Heaven, it is my belief, that God delights in hearing and answering our prayers!

FEAR NOT! That is the message that the Lord has for us. In fact, it is given 3 times in these 5 verses. However, the Lord isn't just dismissing our fears, rather He is giving us instructions on how to turn our fears into faith!

God revealed so many things to Oliver in the revelation. He revealed that he had the gift of revelation and that he would give him the gift of translation. And as wonderful as those gifts are, I think the most important thing that God revealed to Oliver here was the revelation of who He was and His relationship to Oliver. I think Oliver Cowdery is one of the most important people in early church history. Think of all he did. Think of all the revelation that he was a key part of! Today we will talk a little bit about how Oliver Cowdery came into Joseph Smith life, and ne of the first things that God asked of him.

After 9 months of not seeing one another, Martin Harris comes to Joseph Smith and asks him to ask the Lord if he can see the plates and receive that added witness.  The fact alone that Joseph complied and went to the Lord on behalf of Martin speaks volumes of Joseph's character and forgiveness. And the Lord's response to Martin speaks volumes of His! 

As I studied section 4 again today I thought it was interesting that our desire makes us called to the work, but our Christlike attributes qualify us for the work. It reminded me of the difference between being ordained to the priesthood vs the POWER of the priesthood. I absolutely love that the call to service that we see in section 4 isn't a call to serve our fellow man. In verse 2 it declares that we "embark in the service of God." What does it mean to serve God? And to serve Him with all our heart, might, mind and strength?

When the Lord told Joseph Smith Sr, through the prophet Joseph Smith, that a marvelous work was about to come forth, I don't think they could have even imagined how marvelous that work would become. 

It seems silly to think that we would ever know more than God. I don't think anyone would ever outright say that. But what messages do we send to Him when we disregard His counsels or His commandments? I believe that one of the most important skills we can develop in our day is the ability to hear God's counsel, and act quickly on it.  

Verse 5 of section 3 says, "Behold you have been entrusted with these things." In the margin next to that scripture I have the question, "What has God entrusted you with?" I have always answered that question by thinking about my calling or my kids, but today, as I was pondering that question my mind went to a different answer. There are times as we live God's great plan for us that we may feel like we have completely failed and spoiled the plan.
