In these verses the Lord is going to teach us hw to be more fully His disciples. We love as He loves, we bless as He blesses. And then as it teaches us in 53:2 we learn to leave behind the values of the world, for the virtues of Christ.

Here the Lord promises to give Bishop Partridge direction as he seeks to move forward in his stewardship to bless the saints. There is so much hope and peace and love in these verses. If we really understood verses 24 and 40 we would never again fall into the hopeless feelings of perfectionism. And if we really understood verses 41 and 43 we would do everything in our powers to ensure that we were as like the Savior as possible. 

Here, the Lord is speaking to the leaders of the church, those who were given the task to teach. Each of us in our callings, either our callings in the church or our callings as parents, we are also given the responsibility to teach. Here we are taught that God's way of teaching is only done by the Spirit, but also, that true Godly learning must be done by the Spirit as well!

Here the Lord is giving us some incredible instruction followed by a very powerful promise. He is inviting leaders to come together WITH Him to reason together, to COUNSEL together. There is such an amazing example given in these verses. Here the Lord is preparing missionaries to go preach to the Shakers. Sending them into preach the way He was, it could have turned into a big old Bible bashing session. But the Lord instructs them right off the bat to preach the basic doctrines of the gospel. Here we are told that we need to receive Christ. But what does that mean? Often when we think of receiving, we think of receiving something. But what does it mean to receive someone? As we finish learning gifts in this section the Lord teaches us one final important principle; in all things, in all gifts, in all action we act in the name of Christ and glorify Him in the process. That is one of the reasons gifts were given, that others may see our good works and glorify Him. That though the use of our gifts we can bring others to Christ.

In this section we are told to "seek earnestly the best gifts," and that if we ask in the Spirit we will receive. Our Father in Heaven wants us to ask for His gifts to be bestowed upon us. Because if we are seeking those gifts for the purpose for which they are intended, meaning to bless and benefit His children, then why wouldn't He want to give us all good things.

A while back I talked about the the Law of Consecration and the bishop's storehouse. Here in these verses we read about pairs of gifts that that seem similar but are subtle enough to show us how each person with each gift is needed. Our gifts become part of our bishops storehouse. And because we were blessed with certain gifts from God, it falls upon each of us to give freely to our wards and neig...

When the Lord says that there are many gifts, He really means it! As we look inward to discover our own gifts, it is important that Spiritual gifts go far beyond the small list given in this section. And EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of us have some! 

Today we start talking about spiritual gifts! YAY! This is one of my favorite doctrines in the gospel. I love and am so humbled by the fact that God would bestow these small portions of His divinity on us. Today we talk about why He does it. And like most things in the gospel, it's not about us. 

In these verses the Lord is commanding us that we shouldn't cast anyone out, or away from our meetings. I don't think any of us would be so brazen to physically kick some one out of a sacrament meeting. But do we sometimes cast people out with our judgements? Or our sideways looks? Or our gossip? Here in these verses the Lord is going to talk about some of the conditions of His millennial reign. The peace and principle of true worship that He describes makes me so excited to be there. But just as President Kimball explains, as we, through our choices begin to bind Satan in our homes and lives, that aspect of the millennium can begin for us!

In these verses the Lord teaches us a little more about the signs of His coming and then makes reference to the 10 virgins. AGAIN, He is trying to teach us preparedness. When the Savior told His disciples about the signs of the 2nd coming in Matthew 24-25, He says that they were troubled. Often times as we ponder the events that will lead up to His coming it can feel that way. However, they Savior then commands, "be not troubled." Today we will talk about how we can "be not troubled" in a world of increasing evil.  

Here, as the Savior begins to talk about the signs of His second coming he helps us see 3 distinct and important things that His atonement can do for us. The gifts of resurrection, redemption, and the restoration. 

The gospel of Jesus Christ is a is a light to the world because that Light of the world stands at its head. And as we do more to follow Him, we can reflect that light to all those that we meet!
