The chapter begins with the story of the “Feeding of the Five Thousand.” In one respect, the miracle leads to our Lord’s discourse on the bread of life that closes chapter 6. This is what we saw with the healing of the invalid in chapter 5. Yet the story has its own lessons about the crowds, the disciples, and our Lord himself.
