Coffee, the Bible, and Paige

This Psalm is a prayer for its King as he goes to war. This translates quite easily into being a prayer for us believers who war with the enemy of our souls on a daily basis.

God is revealed in Nature, and God is revealed in His Words.

Paul relies heavily on this Psalm in his thesis to the Roman church (see chapter 3 and compare it to this passage). The wicked boast and strut until God shows up.

What does faith look like... REALLY? Faith is truly on display when all hope appears lost.

Very descriptive text on those who are the enemies of God. Sounds a good deal like something Paul pulled from when he was writing Romans.

I see two types of prayer in this Psalm - the formal prayers and the "cry of the heart" impromptu prayer. There's a place for both.

In this Psalm, David is fleeing Jerusalem for his life in the shadow of his son Absalom's usurping David's throne. This Psalm speaks to my greatest time of personal devastation.

The fate of the wicked is discussed using the picture of harvesting grain.

Welcome to the first installment of my latest series That I call "Roadtrip - my Journey through the Psalms!" I am not going to go through EVERY Psalm, just the ones that have spoken to me throughout the years. It's been awhile since I have camped in the Psalms, and I am looking forward to it.

Peter summarizes this letter as it pertains to false teachers, and reminds them of the "Day of the Lord" - it will be unexpected, sudden. and devastating.

One of the things we Believers will have to deal with are those who laugh at us for our waiting for the return of our King.

Peter has some very strong words for those who purport to be Prophets from God and for those teachers who claim to teach what God says.

Peter is near the end of his life, So he wastes no time on frivolity. He reminds them he is an eye witness and the Torah is not to be ignored.

Peter focuses on internal pressures i.e. false teachings and false teachers asooposed to his 1st letter, where he focused on the external pressures of trips and persecution from Rome. In order to discern the false from the true, we need to know that which is true to such a degree, the the false is immediately clear.

This is my summary of the book of 1 Peter.

Only three verses... yet there are some very useful and important thoughts here as Peter closes this letter out.

Peter turns his attention to the younger men - and speaks to suffering, and the battle they (and by extension, us) are fighting.

In light of the suffering they are and will be going through, Peter gives specific instructions to the elders in the churches.
