For the next few weeks, we’ll hear about our big prayer as a church - Knowing Jesus, Loving his church, Reaching the lost. This is what we believe God wants to see in our church for years to come! This week we begin by seeing what Scripture says about knowing Jesus, particularly in the experience of the apostle Paul.

1 John 5:13-21. In our last passage from 1 John, we consider the question: what difference should my assurance in Christ make to my life? As we’ll see, it makes us confident to ask God for things, intercede for stumbling Christians, and overcome sin in our lives. The spiritual world is real, and sometimes we see it with our own eyes. Religious movements and groups sometimes spring up around spiritual events. But how can we tell if this is a movement of the Holy Spirit? What if it’s a movement of the human spirit, or something worse? 1 John 3:4-10. Many of us lie in bed sometimes wondering, “Am I really a Christian?” After all, I still do things God doesn’t want me to! 1 John 2:18-27. False teachers have existed since the very beginning of Christianity. How can we protect ourselves from them, so we don’t get led astray? Listen along as Dan explains how God makes false teaching clear for us, and assures us that what we believe is far better.

1 John 2:15-17. There’s always pressure on Christians to ‘get with the times.’ Today we’ll see why we should never give in to that pressure. Why is it impossible to love both God and the world’s values? In this passage, God warns his people not to turn away from him, while also encouraging those who resist the ways of the world to keep going.

Young or old, it can be tough to stay a Christian in today’s world. Listen along as we hear this stirring call to confidence from 1 John.

Some Christians feel like imposters, when actually they’re safe in Christ. Other people feel very confident in their faith, but there’s little evidence that they’re actually saved! How can we know if we’re really a Christian? In this week’s passage, we’ll see how. God gives us either assurance or a warning, depending on what we need to hear from him through John.

Many Christians find it hard to tell others about Jesus. This week, at our inaugural church camp, we immerse ourselves in Paul’s passion for evangelism. What made him push through the hardship and keep declaring the gospel? Four big truths: the goal of history, the gravity of hell, the goodness of the gospel, and the glory of God.
