Aussies love a rebel. We love the idea of people who throw off their restraints - and often we wish we were like them. But in Psalm 2, we meet rebels against God, and it’s not a pretty picture. Yet in Philippians 2:12-18, God commands the church to be different: we must never grumble against each other nor dispute with each other. How can this be possible? And what difference does it make? The most common question our church gets is: Why do you keep kids in during the gathering? Shouldn’t we run a Sunday School to teach kids in their age groups, instead of expecting them to sit through a sermon? But we believe Scripture paints a different picture. The culture around us values great leaders, but can overlook a moral failing so long as they deliver great results. Baptism can seem weird from an outsider’s perspective. But our church makes it even weirder, by saying things like: we’ll only baptise believers, and only accept baptised believers into membership! Why is believers baptism such an important distinctive of our church? Acts 2 gives us a window into the New Testament’s clear teaching on this.

“Church discipline” - the words send shivers down our spines! But what does it really mean? And why are accountable relationships necessary for a healthy church? Jesus gives us clear instructions for how to deal with sin in a healthy, restorative, honest way. Join us as we look at Matthew 18:15-20 together.

One thing that is ‘distinctive’ about our church is formal membership - or what we call ‘meaningful membership.’ Why should someone be a member of a local church? Is it an unnecessary add-on to the Christian life, or something more? Join us as we dive into 1 Corinthians 12 together, understanding what it means to be part of “the body of Christ.”

We finish our time in 2 Samuel with David’s final song - a brutal and honest account of how God saved him from death. How does God save us today? What does he save us from? And how can we make sure our feet are planted on the ‘rock’ that David talks about?
