It’s popular to hear that Christianity is an escape from reality. Basically, you have a hope that you’ll get to heaven when you die, and that’s a pretty nice deal, and in the meantime you can eke out a smile, tolerate your neighbours and cope with the messiness of work, relationships and family while you’re alive on the earth.

Last time I spoke I talked about some of the aspects of the Lord's Prayer. Many of us see prayer as a time when we ask for stuff. Now there is nothing wrong with asking for stuff, in fact God wants us to seek Him for His provision as it delights Him for us to be getting involved in His work.

What is the one thing you have missed the most during the current lock-down? For most of us it is likely that it is just being with others and having conversation. Having the opportunity to just chat with friends is a very important part of our lives.

There’s something good about a list and being able to work your way through it –carefully ticking off each item or even better, dramatically crossing out. It is a satisfying feeling to know you’ve made progress, you’ve used your time well, or just got rid of some annoying job that’s been lingering around for a while.

In as much as we have a future we also have a past and these are our roots. Roots are important for all of us, whether that is as individuals or as a group. Our past experiences, whether personal or shared, are all tools that God uses in our service of Him.

Let me ask you a question. How does this Beacons come to you? I’ve no idea. I know I prepare the message, and I save it on my laptop – not sure how that works,apparently in a Cloud somewhere.

Marriage is meant to be one man and one woman being united. The fairy tales almost got it right. You are supposed to commit to one person and that commitment is lifelong. But, it won’t always make you happy.

Yes, the Lord may open doors, create opportunities for you, confirm His will by doing so. But it doesn't mean that the path is going to be smooth and problem free.

I want you to visualise my condition. My own confidence had gone, my own abilities were not going to save me, as good as they were. There was absolutely nothing I could do.
