How should Christians today view the nation of Israel?  How should we view the Jewish people?  Christians have wrestled with these questions for a long time.  The Apostle Paul addresses them in Romans 9.

When we realize that that all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and there is nothing we can do to earn God's forgiveness, the fact that He does forgive us, is pretty far-fetched.  In Romans 3 Paul talks about how incredible God's forgiveness of us really is.

When C.S. Lewis wrote his classic book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, he picked up on the Biblical imagery that the Messiah is a Lion.  As he tells his story, he actually helps us understand Christ better, and why His arrival into our world at Christmas is so important.  

As we continue this Advent series on Who is the Messiah?, today we are talking about how the Messiah is a Servant.  Since we are called to be like Christ, it's important for us to understand Who He is, so that we can be like Him and live like Him.  Being a servant is central to Who Christ is.

In today's episode from the book of Judges, we are introduced to a reluctant leader names Gideon.  As God calls him into leadership, he is full of questions and is hesitant to assume a new role.  The questions he asks are the same questions we ask of God today.  And as we read his story, we get some insight into how God answers our questions today.  

In Judges 4, we read about a Surprising Situation with a Surprising Judge and a Surprising Judgment.  It is not what we would have expected to happen.  But, it helps us understand how God is at work in our world today.  

In Judges 2, the Israelites struggled because they didn't obey God, they didn't pass on their faith in God, and they didn't listen to God.  We have the same problems today, but we can learn from their mistakes.  We don't have to fall into the same cycle of sin that they did.  

Today we beging our series walking our way through the Old Testament book of Judges.  It's a book that describes a time in the life of Israel when many people had a half-hearted faith in God.  They were not opposed to God, they just weren't completely committed to Him.  And this half-way faith ended up creating a lot of problems for them.
