In this passage we look at the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives and how the Spirit helps us change.

The gospel of Jesus Christ changes our entire identity. It means that, as Christians, we have the status of forgiven, justified, and redeemed Children of God. Paul is writing the church to remind them to not fall back into thinking they are orphans, but to lean into the promise that God is a loving Father who has adopted us into his family.

All of us have something or someone to which we look for justification. We all want to know that we are all square in life, both with people, and with God. This week we look at how we are actually “justified” according to the gospel and what that means for how we live. 

In chapter 4, Jonah is angered with God's grace and compassion for Nineveh after its people repented. Today, we'll look at what happens when we are wronged by others? Are we quick to forgive? If not, what are putting above God in our hearts and how do we live out the compassionate heart of Christ in our city?

We love second chance stories. In Jonah 3 we see Jonah begin his second chance. He does what he should have done in the first place and obeys God. Everything happens according to plan. And Jonah, instead of experiencing joy in obedience, is bitter and angry at God. He shows that though his behavior changes, his heart is still hard. 

In this passage we learn about how grace begins to transform our lives and turns us into people who treat others with love and kindness.

As we continue in Jonah 1, we see that no matter how far we run God will find us.

In Jonah 1, God’s Word came to Jonah to go to a city that he hated to tell them to repent. Jonah decided to go in the opposite direction and we see the lengths to which God goes to get him.

Luke 15 starts with two groups of people: religious leaders and moral outcasts. The religious are grumbling that Jesus welcomes sinners, or the people who are spiritually lost. Psalm 23 is a psalm where David is talking to God with trust. David is using imagery that is very familiar to him. When we first encounter David in the Bible as a young man, in 1 Samuel 16, he is keeping the sheep. As a shepherd, David knows what it means to care for the sheep and he is able to draw from his experiences as a shepherd to understand the many ways that God is caring for him.

In this passage, we see the different ways we often react when life takes the unexpected turns. We also explore the God who guides are every step in life.

Psalm 63 is about longing. Deep longing. This is a psalm of David, and like many of David’s psalms, it comes from a dark time in his life where he is expressing this longing to be satisfied.

We all have guilt for things we have done, or things we have left undone. Sometimes that guilt is so overwhelming that it feels like we are drowning. This psalm of ascent points to how we can know real freedom from the guilt that overwhelms us.

When we are overwhelmed with fear, we cling to things that will give us assurance. In Psalm 27, David shows that God’s presence is what he needs to confront his fears.
