Post Canada Day 02.07.2022 4:05:16
RIP Rudi Gomis (Orchestra Baobab), a big dollop of African and Latin music, then a whole heap of Canadian artists - most of whom are performing at Island Musicfest, and / or Vancouver Folk Music Festiuval and / or Mission Folk Music Festival later this month. The soulful and bluesy groove eventually gave way to some stunning songwriters, and we finished with the customary Celtic flourish

Also music from the latest Songlines Magazine, a feature on Malian singer and activist Oumou Sangaré, and R.I.P. to the brilliant, understated, Irish-American Celtic trad guitarist Dennis Cahill. A nod - of sorts - to the Queen's 70th anniversary, and as many bits of irreverence and celebration and lamenting as anyone can take in 4 hours of the musical mayhem served up today - amidst some pretty horrendous Wi-Fi connection challenges!
Take Away The Guns 28.05.2022 4:00:02
The mass murder of innocent school children in Texas really got to me this week. What a truly messed-up country we have on our southern doorstep. I have a lot of American friends and I play a lot of American music on the show. I empathize with them all. There appears to be no hope down there. The Republicans are doing the damnedest to screw up everything. So, all I can do is play music and try to...

Ventured out to UBC to present the show LIVE for the first time in a few weeks. Massive amounts of construction and road works, and a whole mess of technical difficulties greeted me! New music from Oumou Sangare, Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder, The Unthanks, etc. Previews of Pharis and Jason Romero, Early Spirit, Okan, and Diyet & The Love Soldiers. More little tri...
