Once again Jesus issues a challenge for his disciples, getting to the motives behind their good deeds.

Today is part two of the sermon that Pastor Brent preached last week. This section of the sermon on the mount gives us six, "you have heard it said" but I say to you" statements by Jesus.

In this portion of the Sermon on the Mount, we discover that God meant what he said! This is called authorial intent. Authorial intent, what the author intended to communicate when he wrote what he wrote, is key to interpreting the Bible. It is the author's intentions that we, as students of the Bible, seek to recover. The meaning is in the text!

This week we continue our study through the Gospel According to Matthew. This is week 3 of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus is redefining much of life for his new followers. Here, he orients them (and us) regarding himself and his kingdom in relation to the Old Testament.
