I was taught by the Christian Church not to love myself.  I was told loving myself was sinful. But I've learned over decades of experience that Biblical verses seemingly condemning loving yourself are not viewed in context and are often dangerously distorted by unloving interpretation.

Jesus said "Love others as you love yourself." In reality, you will inevitably treat other people the way you treat yourself. And John says if you hate your brother, you are a murderer. So if you dislike yourself, you are treading dangerously close to murder.

Sometimes organized religion has the notion that believing in Jesus requires a leap into the uncertainty of faith. Actually, Jesus asked for no such thing. 

Jesus the Christ is the only great religious leader who ever claimed to have lived in Heaven and then agreed to be incarnated into this Earth to tell us what he saw there. No other great religious leader ever made that claim. Jesus is: THE WITNESS.

No great religious teacher in history ever said what Christ said of himself: "I, Jesus have lived in Heaven, I agreed to be incarnated and I came into this world to tell you what I learned in Heaven." No one, not Muhammed, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Confucius, or Lao Tzu ever said that. 

16 million people in the US have likely had a Near Death Experience. Yet both psychiatrists and pastors routinely view them as psychosis or mere hallucinations. The fact is that NDEs almost always lead to greater mental health, not worse.
