In our Advent sermon series, Songs of the Season, we’re exploring a favorite Christmas carol each week. Jonathan kicks us off by looking at “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” sharing the history of this song’s origin and the deep promises it holds for us today: promise of rescue and the gift of God with us.

This week we hear about the fiery furnace, and Petey shares how standing on a conviction can lead to courage. For when God is with us, sin and suffering have no final power.

This week Melissa explores the dream of Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2. We see how God uniquely dwells among us, unlike the Babylonian gods, and how He comes alongside and equips Daniel to endure the circumstances he’s in. When we face similar difficulties in life, Melissa urges us to not ask why is this happening, but instead: where is God showing up?

This week we witness the things Daniel and his friends said yes and no to as they live in Babylon. Petey shares how their example shows we shouldn’t be afraid of living in a culture foreign to our faith; instead, we see how God provides for His people in a way that Babylon never can. For when we say yes to Jesus, we can say no to any promises the world makes.

Petey kicks off our new series on the book of Daniel, where we witness a story of God’s faithfulness in a foreign land. Like Daniel, we live in a world that wants to pry us from our devotion to God; listen as Petey shares how Christ holds fast to us and God’s faithfulness gives us hope when sin severs us from who we are meant to be.
