Richard investigates the claims of the British humanist Association that we should be careful how we teach religion in schools, and notes that in our passage Jesus seems to be dangerously unscientific, destructively intolerance, and arrogantly judgemental. The crowds have just been amazed by Jesus authority as he taught them. Now they are amazed by his authority over sicknesses as Jesus heals many people. Each healing in chapter 8 points to who Jesus is and the kind of kingdom he is inviting us to join. the reading: Matthew  8:1-17

Richard summarises the disciple making teaching Jesus has given in the sermon on the Mount with reference to John Bunyan's classic text 'the Pilgrims progress'. the reading: Matthew  7:13-29

God delights when we ask him for things. In this section of the Sermon on the Mount we see that followers of Jesus are not to judge each other but ask the true judge, Jesus Christ, for everything they need. the reading: Matthew 7:1-12
