In Luke 5, we meet four men who felt compelled to get a helpless friend in front of Jesus.  In spite of obstacles that seemed insurmountable, they pulled all the stops, and as a result, their friend found both physical and spiritual healing.  Their efforts are exemplary and encourage us all as we think about our lost friends and neighbors!

CVBC is beginning 2020 with the Who's Your One campaign.  All month long, we will be looking at the nature of a disciple and the call of the disciple to be engaged in the Great Commission.  Join us today as we consider the nature of a disciple and the call to stop being "Christians" and start being Jesus' disciples.

God demonstrates true love for us by sending Jesus on a rescue mission.  Powerless to save ourselves, we have to receive the offer of rescue.  This week, we look at one of the stops on the Romans Road to consider how great a love we have experienced and how that love should compel us to share this good news with others!

On this third Sunday of Advent, we consider the theme of joy.  When Mary visits Elizabeth, she sings a beautiful song reflecting on God's goodness!  It gives us cause to ponder how joyful our lives are.  For Christians, our joy is wrapped up in the Lord, not our circumstances.  Joy, as one author put it, is "the emotion of salvation."  Join us this week as we consider joy!

With the birth of Jesus, we can experience peace.  Alongside the peace of Christ, our lives our filled with hope.  The Israelites had great hope in the return of the future son of David.  As Jesus' followers, we have tremendous hope in the return of Jesus.  As we live under the promise of his return, let that compel us to bring as many people along with us as possible!

As we begin our Advent celebration, we focus on the concept of Peace - or as the Hebrews call it, Shalom.  Peace is more than the absence of conflict.  It is a God-given sense of completion and fullness that comes only from a right relationship with Jesus.  Let us consider the song of the Angels in the Bethlehem sky as we look to the Biblical concept of "peace."

Deuteronomy 34 serves as Moses' functional obituary.  As a result, we are challenged to consider how we will finish our lives!

The Bible is sufficient for all matters of faith and practice for the Christian.  However, we do not always treat it as such.  Today's sermon considers the importance of God's word - both for the generation of Israelites entering the Promised Land, and for the church today.

In the changing of the guard from Moses to Joshua, we see some important principles at work.  Mature believers need to be investing in the next generation while also listening to and learning from them.  Join us today from Deuteronomy 31:1-8.

There are all kinds of giants in our lives.  Financial, relational, medical.  God doesn't want us to fear our giants, but wants to us to give Him glory as he helps us confront our giants.  

Nearing the end of his ministry, Moses' emotions get the best of him as he lashes out in anger and frustration.  God has made us as emotive creatures, but it is important, as Christians, that we bring every thought captive in obedience to Christ - including our emotions.

Forgiveness is good for the soul, but it starts with a right relationship with Jesus.

Moses is given an opportunity to correct a previous error.  We serve a God who is a God of second chances!

When Moses is confronted with the glory of God - his only response is that of worship.  Moses is eager to know more than God's power - he wants to know God's person.  In this dramatic encounter with the glory of God, Moses comes to realize that God's character and his glory go hand in hand.

Moses' relationship to the Lord is described as a friendship.  How many of us seek a relationship with God that is described as a friendship?  This week, we will consider this friendship and how we can seek that level of intimacy with the Lord.

The last of the 10 commandments is a prohibition against coveting.  This may be one of the hardest commandments to keep.  Today, we learn about the problems of coveting and how the Lord helps us overcome!

The 9th Commandment tells us to not bear false witness.  Today, the opportunity to use our words for evil purposes abound.  Let us guard our words - both spoken with our lips and typed with our fingers.
