CharroBeans: A Mariachi Podcast

The CharroBoys get to 90 episodes! We talk about growing up in North Side Fort Worth, gigs canceling last minute, playing impromptu misa music, disgusted quinceañeras, zumba venues, and last minute gig additions. What is your biggest client pet peeve? 

The CharroBoys are back once again after some vacation and time off. We get back into the swing of things discussing our time off, Sammy visiting Mexico, playing with people filling in, watching Vargas and going back to the Albuquerque Mariachi Conference. It was a fun one getting together again. 

The CharroBoys will be back in two weeks after Albuquerque. For now we went in on this episode discussing our first cars, playing for las divorciadas, going back to OKC for a wedding with bad ass kids, playing in small towns, gender reveals with fireworks. What would you do if you saw an ex at a gig? 

The CharroBoys went this week without their boss for two days. We get into improvising without a head honcho, Father’s Day weekend, a priest that was very extra, playing an anime intro for a quinceañera, playing close to the local strip clubs, and Vic accompanying Shaila Dúrcal except not really. Got a pic thooo.

The CharroBoys kinda messed up their 2 year anniversary. Whoops. But we still get into it with this episode by reflecting on the last couple years playing in one group, seeing mariachis out of their traje, guys impressing girls with songs, wearing fake nails for the first time, and getting deceived at the bar.

The CharroBoys get serious for a sec. The community of Uvalde, TX lost 21 lives, something that continues to be a problem in our home state. 21 lives at an elementary school. Nothing has been done to change the laws to obtain these weapons that time and time again have given people the opportunity to murder innocent people. The CharroBoys kept it real this week. We get into why people that feel the need to put down other musicians, why they’re the worst, supporting your fellow charros, cuhh chambelanes, hot venues, playing for a white dude who can sing mariachi songs, and what could’ve been. 💔

The CharroBoys had a pretty busy week. They get into a little about why mariachi history is important, playing Mi Viejo for a Mother’s Day gig, seeing planta regulars outside the restaurant, playing for a boxing quinceañera, forgetting your strap, and playing for what seemed like a college frat party. Christian Nodal and Grupo Firme was on the playlist, of course. 

The CharroBoys went through it this year for Mother’s Day weekend. It was a loooong weekend filled with all pain and some gain. We get into playing through injuries, cop visits, upset stomachs, hot festivals, Canelo’s L, and weird mansions. Our bodies still have not recorvered. 

80 episodes with ya bois and still grinding. The CharroBoys get into growing up going to church, illegally downloading music in the early 2000s, playing for a dude that doesn’t take no for an answer, and being civilians for a weekend. Bossman got you scoping out talent at the high school? Gotta get musicians from somewhere. 🥴

The CharroBoys gigged separately this week. They get into it with talk of their hood in Fort Worth, the return of clients you have broken up with, your boss forgetting you took the day off, unhappy old ladies, and kids beefin at competitions. We’re just trynna see people throw hands for the Division I titles. 

The CharroBoys are fast approaching to 80 episodes, cuhh. They get into life as a bad student, putting on bad concerts because you didn’t practice, playing with a tuba, and smelly venues. Did this place smell like turd or was it the carne? Either way, I’m bout to hurl. 

The CharroBoys ate some pizza and got to speakin’. The get into multiple topics like the life of a college student and teacher, becoming the older guys in the mariachi, asking your mom to let you go gig, using the mariachi as a karaoke machine, and seeing another mariachi in public. Are we finna scrap? Who’s winning? 

The CharroBoys keep grindin, you already know. We get into a weekend with fancy venues, playing in your own hood, stealing, your wife coming to your planta, playing on a hill, among other things. We played for a party where people didn’t get fed til AFTER we finished. They were starving, dawg. 

The CharroBoys are in their 75th episode! Lots of work to get to this point All for you, beans. We get into morning cartoons, missing a weekend to be a teacher, how the years pass by, being late to go to Starbucks, and what happens when you finally stop gigging. Why do people stop gigging? Money? Time? Less back pain? We discuss.

The CharroBoys survived the tornadoes to put out an episode for y’all. We get into the crazy weather, blackouts, lasik, Sammy playing guitarron, and playing for señores. Y’all see that video of the guy falling on his guitarron? That hurted, bro. 

The CharroBoys get into it this week, y’all. We get into the big mariachi heads coming together for a tour, getting music from CD’s, savages at Balcón Mariachero, paradoxes, going live on social media, and playing at a Zumba gym. What would you do if you didn’t have mariachi as a side hustle? We’d probably strip, but nobody wanna see that. 

Don’t call it a comeback. The CharroBoys get back in the booth and are back with more new episodes of CharroBeans. We’re back and discussing the 3 month hiatus, what we’ve been up to, toxic partners, gigging with other groups, 2 ice ages in Texas, lack of consistent work, el covid, and coming back to the pod. We missed ya. 

The CharroBoys crank one last episode before taking a few weeks off. We get into waitresses throwing away your food, what the group does when Sammy can’t go gig, pop quizzes in church, change in temperature on Dia de La Virgen weekend, singing to the wrong birthday girl, and the death of an icon. RIP to the last living legend, Vicente Fernandez. End of an era.

We’ll take you through the seven-hour weekend, playing for clients that feed you tacos after the gig, wedding planners that don’t want you to play, fancy weddings where you don’t belong, short DJ’s and the beginning of Día de La Virgen weekend. The CharroBoys hardly had work so we winging it. We get into people in your life that taught you about the world, fighting with your barber, Thanksgiving without turkey, getting yelled at by the mariachi boss, getting some armonia help, and super lame quince in OKC. How you gonna hire us for 3 hours and not even try to enjoy the musicians? 

Happy Thanksgiving, y’all. Today we give thanks to you for continued support. We get into it today with underwear choices, traje fittings, missing gigs to go to concerts, the effects of Red Bull, clients twerking on you, and change of plans. How we been together all day and haven’t played a single note yet? Mariachi life. 🥴
