CharroBeans: A Mariachi Podcast

The CharroBoys are going on hiatus. With the real world just around the corner, Sammy and Victor are taking a break from the pod to focus on other projects. We get into why taking care of yourself is important, representation in media, Sammy making mariachi content for the last ten years, and how mariachi can make you a well-rounded musician. We hope to be back soon, love you. 

The CharroBoys have one episode left before taking a break. Recording a day late, we get into the cost of being a functioning mariachi, getting back to the real world, wishing our planta was better, and performing at Hooters. Los casados were in the doghouse after attending the aforementioned location.

The CharroBoys are back after a couple of weeks. They talk about time off, Sammy visiting Mexico and having no water, and our first time in 10 years going to Albuquerque Mariachi Spectacular Mariachi Conference. We get into climbing mountains, exploring the city, and answering the question if we're interested in competing next year. Hmmmmmmm.

The CharroBoys sit down with friend of the podcast Willie Acuña, harpist for Mariachi Sol de Mexico. They get into it with his upbringing, his love for jarocho music, which BBQ is the best, harp implementation in school and professional groups, and his experience making it into a world-renowned mariachi group. This episode has been a long time coming, thanks Willie.

The CharroBoys braved the severe thunderstorms and tornadoes to bring you this episode. Since it's graduation season, we look back at the times when life was much simpler. We get into career choices, figuring out what to do with the rest of our lives, and also passing up storm chasers on the way to a gig. We ain't scared of no naders.

The CharroBoys are beat down after a long Mother’s Day weekend. We get into being exhausted after a rainy Dia de Las Madres, playing at a friend’s grad party, client’s asking for depressing ass rep, and losing the keys to the van. Nobody hit us up for a couple days 😴

The CharroBoys get back to it after 5 de Mayo weekend. A super busy week for most working mariachis, the holiday usually provides steady work. We get into the holiday in Mexico, playing at the fanciest restaurant we’ve ever seen, and hear your experiences at the 5 de drinko gigs.

The CharroBoys have their first guest inside the studio. Sammy’s wife, Zayra, joins the beans on this episode and discusses marriage, growing up with Sammy and Vic, and her start in mariachi music in the public school system. We almost fired Victor, but we can’t get rid of him for legal reasons. 

The CharroBoys were apart this week because Sammy had to be a teacher. He talks about his experience at the All Region clinic. We also get into other things like Victor’s teachers beating the crap out of him, schooling back then and now, Victor being late for once, and being humbled at workshops by clinicians. Ever had your boss be actually mad at you? We have 🥲

The CharroBoys remembered to press record this week. We get into the crazy situations clients put us through during the gig. Who knows what's gonna happen during that gig? It might be extreme weather, people shooting their pistolas, seeing your boss get roughed up, or even put in uncomfortable situations. Come listen, we have video now. Well, again. 

The CharroBoys had a good episode, until we realized we didn’t record video. Buuuuuut we did get audio! Hehe we get into lots of things like getting new trajes, losing business because of a bartender, and playing for a short groom. How far would you travel for a gig?
