Revelation 2:12-2:17 | The church at Pergamum was threatened from the outside. It experienced a lot of the same suffering and persecution that the church of Smyrna was commended for withstanding and it too remained faithful to Christ. Yet, the real threat in Pergamum was not found outside of its walls. It seems that the church was at risk of losing its way from those teaching within its walls.

Revelation 2:8-2:11 | The best sports team is the one that doesn't loose, and the best businesses make the most money. However, one of the best churches in the book of Revelation is the one that is being persecuted most. Yet, the call isn't to avoid the suffering, but learning to be faithful through it.

Revelation 2:1-2:7 | Jesus, the one who has authority over the church, starts the letter of Revelation by addressing the church of Ephesus. They are commended for many things but are reminded that their motivation is of primary importance to Christ. Even more than their sound doctrine and good works, Christ is after their heart.
