1 Samuel 1:1-20 The life of Samuel was during a pivotal time for the Nation of Israel as they transitioned into the time of the Kings.  The providence of God in the life of Hannah, mother of Samuel, reminds us how the circumstances of life are all part of His plan.  His plan included Samuel anointing Kings culminating in Jesus Christ and the redemption of mankind.

1 Samuel 1:1-20 The birth narratives of Samuel and Jesus, while radically different in many ways, contain parallel truths about the person, character, and plans of God that when embraced allow us to face life’s challenges and opportunities with humility, confidence, and determination.

1 Samuel 1:1-20 We serve a God Who hears our cries and cares about us...so how should that affect our lives and how we react to Him during times of struggle and disappointment?

Judges 13:1-25 Although Samsons birth and ministry were miraculous he ultimately fell short of the calling placed upon his life. Yet, as we look at how his birth and life parallel that of Christs we are drawn to the supernatural realities that where Samson failed Christ succeeded, and this realization gives us great hope this Christmas season.

The miraculous birth of Samson points to the miraculous birth of Jesus in that both were special deliverers given by God to save His people from their enemies. Judges 13 As we go through the story of Samson's miraculous birth we will look at God's Timing, God's Purpose & God's Promises. 

Samson 13 When God’s people are trapped in the cycle of their sin, God provides a saviour.  In the birth of Samson we see a pattern that is repeated throughout the Bible that leads us to the ultimate salvation in Jesus.  Samson was a flawed saviour, but in Jesus we have a perfect saviour who leads us to trust and worship Him.

Exodus 2:1-10 This second Sunday of Advent we focus on the miraculous birth of Moses and the myriad of ways that it foreshadows the most life-changing miraculous birth of all: The Birth of Christ. 

Exodus 2:1-10 Sometimes we pray and it feels like our prayers bounce off the ceiling.  Does God really hear our cries for help...and does He care?  3,400 years ago the birth of a baby in Egypt answers that question, and 1,400 years after that birth the cry of a baby lying in a manger reaffirms it!

Genesis 21:1-7 This first Sunday of Advent we focus on the miraculous birth of Isaac and the myriad of ways that it foreshadows the most life-changing miraculous birth of all: The Birth of Christ. 

Genesis 17:1-21 & 21:1-7 The miraculous birth of Isaac is a gracious gift of God to two parents who sometimes successfully, sometimes unsuccessfully sought to trust God and his promises. Isaac’s birth points us to the even more miraculous birth of Jesus Christ, the greatest gift of God’s grace, who God faithfully provides for the eternal joy of His children.

To understand the miracle of the virgin birth of Jesus, we need to see how it fits into the whole story of Scripture – a story in which miraculous births play a starring role. Genesis 21:1-7 As we enter into the Christmas season we are reminded that God has been preparing his people for the miraculous birth of Jesus through many miraculous births.  Abraham and Sarah had no hope of a child, and yet God is faithful to his promises and gives them a child.  This miraculous provision points forward to the coming of Jesus and the joy we have in Him

Haggai 2:10-23 We often believe that our grand visions and our human potential are enough to usher in human flourishing. But these final prophecies from Haggai remind us to stay humble and consider where human flourishing comes from? it comes from God our king, and it is he who blesses us through his Son Jesus.

Haggai 2:10-23 In a time of discouragement, God spoke to the Israelites through Haggai, reminding them that their faithful work on the temple, though small, was not in vain. He promised blessings and restoration, pointing to a greater glory through Zerubbabel, but ultimately through Christ. Haggai 2:10-23 We all want to be blessed by God, but how does that happen?  Can we just wish for it and then get our wish?  Does God look for something inside of us as we look to Him for blessing?  As we wrap up our study of Haggai we discover what it takes to receive God's blessing!

Haggai 2:10-23 The story of the book of Haggai is one of resurrection; God brings life to a people who were ‘dead’ in exile.  As we see the conclusion to the book, we see that this rescue of God’s people was a work of grace.  They had not earned it, yet God was faithful to his promises and gives them hope for the future. 

Haggai 2:1-9 God’s people were discouraged because the Temple they were rebuilding paled in comparison to its former glory. Likewise, we can find ourselves discouraged when we play the comparison game, yet the gospel reminds us of God’s faithful presence and future promises.

Haggai 2:1-9 Not long after the Israelites begin to rebuild the temple they begin to grow discouraged in their work. The prophet Haggai comes to them and offers them assurance for both the present and the future. God is with them and will use their work to point to eternal glories in the future as found in Christ.

Haggai 2:19 The people in Haggai’s day were discouraged.  They had seen the previous splendor of the Temple and knew that nothing they were building would compare.  It is easy to feel like our best days are behind us, but the gospel reminds us that the future God has in store for us is always greater. 

Haggai 1:12-15 The church today can learn a lesson from the Jewish remnant of Haggai's day. Instead of making excuses, we ought to be making confessions and obeying the Lord. Remembering, that fear of the Lord leads to genuine repentance, and genuine repentance will always lead to renewed obedience.

Haggai 1:12-15 When we place God at the center of our lives by responding to Him in fearful obedience, He will respond to us with the amazing and gracious promises of His presence and power, and we will realize the future blessings that He has in store for us.

Haggai 1:12-15 Obey the Lord, Fear the Lord and be stirred up in the Spirit.
