As Jonah finally enters Nineveh to share God's message, we see that the Word of God is sufficient and has the power that saves. The Sufficiency of the Word of God. The Saving Power of the Word of God. The Promises of the Word of God.

What does Jonah 2 teach us about true repentance? Does Jonah's prayer in the belly of the fish give us a good model for true repentance?

Christian, you must spot the difference between truth and error, and respond accordingly. But HOW do we discern the difference between true and false teaching? Test, Don't Trust (4:1-3) Know That The Winner Dwells In You (4:4) Observe Who Pays Attention (4:5-6) May God use His Word to make us young men and women growing in spiritual maturity because we're growing in spiritual discernment

Theme of Jonah: God's grace and mercy offered to all mankind MP: The Word and will of the Lord cannot be changed by human actions Consequences for disobeying God's Word (vv.1-4) Trying to fix it without God (vv.5-13) Running back to God and conforming to his will (vv.14-17)

Christians are shown to be Christians by their righteous lives. They live righteous lives and thereby show themselves children of God, not children of the devil, because they are: Motivated towards righteousness Hoped towards righteousness Enabled towards righteousness I pray this passage spurs believers to live righteously in all they do.

MP: Christians do not fall away from the true gospel. And because that is true, they should remain in it! What a comfort that while many around us and from among us depart from the faith, we know that we Christians are different! We don't need to fear falling away because we've received the Holy Spirit who seals us eternally. We rehearse the gospel truths we know, and that keeps us in it....

MP: The person who genuinely loves God WILL hate the world. True Christians despise this world seeped in sin by hating their sin. True Christians "hate" the things in this world in comparison to the worth of our Lord Jesus. But let's focus most not on negative: "hate the world" but on "love God!" Fix your eyes on Jesus, trust in Him, and use your life to serve him...

What is a true Christian? John says that a Christian is someone who loves other Christians. Oh how we should be a community that displays the gospel by our love for one another. Christians also have confidence of God's work in their lives--do you?

John continues to de-mystify how we can know that we know God in a saving way. If we understand and live out the fundamentals. Sin is not fitting for a Christian. Jesus has dealt with our sin. And obedience shows that you know God. I pray this strengthens your confidence that you do know God.

John wants Christians to have greater assurance of their salvation (5:13), and he does so in 1:5-10 by laying out plan and simple what a Christian is: someone who walks like God and talks like God.

Are you finding ultimate satisfaction in God? Or are you trying to fill up your own leaky cups with other things? Let's meditate on Jeremiah 2:13 together.
