Captivate Podcast

Throughout this series, we will be looking at the sins that derail us in our walks with God, but also cures that deliver us. And part of what we learned so far, is that real heart and life change begins with an awareness of the places in our life where we are the most susceptible to sin. And it’s easy to see why: It’s because you can’t fix what you don’t know is wrong. This week we dove into the s...

In a world that says “comfort is king” and a culture that is constantly bombarding us with ways to make life more luxurious, how do we keep from becoming lethargic, pleasure seeking, easy living Christians? As we continue our series on “Curing the 7 Deadly Sins,” this weekend we are talking all about the sin of Sloth. Christ calls us to serve. But if we’re not careful we will slide down the slippe...

This week we continued in our series, “Curing the Seven Deadly Sins”, and we dove into one of sin’s sneakiest assassins—Envy. It’s the sin that turns brothers into rivals, friends into foes, and hearts into prisons. Unlike the other deadly sins, envy never feels good, it only eats you alive. But here’s the hope: the same God who confronted Cain tenderly also comes to us with grace, offering freedo...

This Sunday, we kicked off a new series called Curing the 7 Deadly Sins. Over the next ten weeks we’ll walk through struggles that have been tripping people up for centuries—Pride, Lust, Greed, Envy, Sloth, Gluttony, Wrath. More importantly we will discover the freedom Jesus offers in their place! This week we started the conversation with Pride! Pride so often sits at the root of the others, whis...

Have you ever noticed how much time we spend measuring things in life? We keep track of promotions, paychecks, grades, likes, followers, even steps on our watches. Measuring isn’t the problem, it’s just that sometimes we’re measuring the wrong things. That’s exactly what Jesus addresses in Matthew 25. In His story of the talents, the Master doesn’t reward the servant for results, fame, or accompli...

We are…. 7!!!! This weekend we celebrated a special B-DAY!🎉  Every birthday feels like a miracle because when you plant a church, you don’t really know what’s going to happen. Yet God has been so, so good!  This Sunday we stepped into a new series called MULTIPLY with a message called “Between the Jordan and Jericho.” We talked about what it looks like to live between what God has already done an...

It’s DOWNTOWN TAKEOVER week! We’re so excited to share with you everything that God has been doing and everything our church has been up to as we prepare for the launch of our third location, in Downtown San Diego. We have been praying for Captivate to be a people with the courage to respond to the move of God on our hearts—whether about downtown or something else in your life. The truth is that a...

This week we took a look at when the disciples had their first real run-in with the law. After preaching about Jesus in the streets, Peter and John get arrested and now stand before the most powerful leaders in their world, the guys who sent Jesus to the cross. They probably should have been terrified... but they weren't. They stood their ground and were bold in their faith. In fact, this stunned...

You ever feel like you're doing all the right things spiritually... showing up, serving, trying your best, but something still feels off? Like you're present, but not really awake? This Sunday, we looked at one of the wildest stories in the early church, a moment in Acts 20 where a guy literally falls asleep during church and falls out of a window. This story is way more than just a cautionary tal...

It’s wild how quickly we can assume God is disappointed in us. Whether it’s our past, our shame, or just the weight of cultural expectations, it’s easy to project those things onto Jesus and misread His heart. But the truth? He’s not mad, He just wants to meet you. This Sunday, we looked at Acts 22 and the story of Saul’s radical transformation. It’s one of the most powerful moments in Scripture w...

We’re more than halfway through our Church in the Wild series in Acts, what a ride! Throughout our series, we’ve seen God move in wild ways—houses shaking, the lame walking, the bound set free, the dead raised, tongues spoken, and prophecies declared. But does God still work like that today? Is Acts just a history lesson, or is it a blueprint for how we’re meant to live—naturally supernatural?  Th...

"Church in the Wild" isn't just a catchy title —it's a declaration and invitation! Our prayer for all of Captivate is that we come out of this not just informed, but transformed . Church as usual? Not anymore. God is calling us deeper, further, higher— out of comfort and into calling . Some of you are asking: • “How do I know it’s really His voice?” • “What if I don’t feel ready?” • “Is it safe to...

Evangelism is a tricky thing, isn’t it?  On the one hand, it’s something that can seem so foreign and uncomfortable to us (in part due to some really bad examples we’ve gotten). And on the other hand, it’s something that we often see reserved for a select few who God has called for that purpose. In Acts chapter 20, Paul makes what shouldn’t be, but often is a stunning revelation: that the job of e...
