Happy New Year! We will begin the new year learning about Jesus through the book of Colossians. Week 1 will begin by exploring the foundational Christian virtues of faith, love, and hope. This introductory sermon sets the stage for a 10-week journey into the teachings of Colossians, emphasizing how these virtues anchor and transform the our daily life.

There are many hyphenated compound words that begin with "Self" and add an adjective (like self-centered or self-aggrandizing) or add a noun (like self-indulgence or self-promotion).  The four examples used here as well as many other "Self" compound words are addressed by our verse from Proverbs today: "nor is it glorious to seek one's own glory."

As we prepare for a new year, many people contemplate personal renewal through resolutions. In 2 Kings 22, a young boy named Josiah becomes a king, discovers the law of God for the first time, and brings about great spiritual reform for the nation of Israel. Zacchaeus' story is a wonderful story of a wealthy man who was rejected by his neighbors because of his traitorous choices, but welcomed by Jesus who invites himself into the home and life of this sinner. Not only had the Son of Man come seeking to save the lost; but Zacchaeus sought to be found by Jesus. In one amazing moment, everything changes for Zacchaeus.  

After Jesus feeds the five thousand, a crowd finds him and asks for more bread. He confronts their motives, saying what they really need is him.
