We all too easily mistake our happiness as God's chief concern for our lives, when nothing could be further from the truth. In Philippians 2:19-30, we take a look at what it means to have joy in serving the Lord. While this may seem to be, at first glance, a simple concept, often times such isn't the case. Because of pride, many people will fight serving others because they believe they should be getting served instead. Or, they would rather complain against those in charge.

The major theme of the book of Philippians is Joy. Joy, unlike happiness, is not based upon your circumstances. As Paul writes this letter he's imprisoned in Rome, and awaiting certain death, and yet he finds joy in the midst of it all. In our text, Paul shows his heart for the Philippians by praying for them in spite of his own personal sufferings.
