October is Pastor Appreciation Month. So, how did it get started? And how should churches approach this month? Bucky talks about healthy ways to recognize and celebrate pastors and reflects on his own experiences in 40 years of ministry. 

This episode was recorded LIVE with the Women’s Ministry at North Hall Church. Mary Cox and Cheryl Mahr joined Bucky to discuss what the Bible says to and about women. The evening was full of laughs and encouragement, as well as challenging truth from God’s Word.

Bucky answers questions about his latest message, The End is Near…Now What? He and Mary discuss how believers should live in light of the imminent rapture of the Church. This was the last message in Bucky’s series through 1 Peter; so he gives a preview of what he’ll be preaching in the coming weeks.

There’s mounting evidence that we’re living in the last days, which means the rapture of the Church and the coming of Christ are imminent. While Bible-believing Christians are certain these events will happen, the timing is uncertain. This should create an urgency in our lives regarding the things of God. So, if the end is near...now what? Bucky finishes his series in 1 Peter by reiterating Peter’...

Mary McSwain talks to Bucky about his most recent sermon on biblical submission. They discuss things like why we’re so resistant to this subject, the generational difference in how it’s viewed, and the differences between submission and compliance. 

The apostle Peter instructed Christians under the rule of Nero to submit to a godless government, bad bosses, and unbelieving spouses. Today, the word submission tends to make people uncomfortable or even combative, usually because it’s misconstrued. We need to understand God’s intent for biblical submission because it’s essential to a victorious Christian life. 

Every time there’s a school shooting, people come out with the same solutions to prevent future tragedies. But none of these strategies will help because they don’t address the real problem. Bucky talks about why the school shooting at Apalachee High School caused him to break from his series in 1 Peter to preach this message from the book of Jeremiah. 

The nation of Judah was in a downward spiral. Although God had warned them to return to Him, they did not. So, Jeremiah was writing to a nation under God’s judgment. This passage is extremely relevant to us as a nation and as individual believers. Like Judah, we need to hear the message of repentance. The only way out of our downward spiral is to look up. (Jeremiah 8:4-8)

Bucky answers questions about his latest sermon, On the Rock. Why did Peter use certain imagery to describe the Church? How well is the American Church living up to Peter’s description? Bucky also talks about the main purpose of the Church and why so many churches are missing it. 

Jesus is the foundation of the Church. He is the Rock—the Cornerstone—that determines why the Church exists and how it operates. If Jesus isn’t the most important and most influential person in a congregation, then it’s a community gathering, not a church. So, how do you build a church on the Rock of Jesus Christ? And why does it matter?

What does the Bible mean when it says that God’s love is poured into us. Why do we, as believers, sometimes feel like we have no love to give? And does God understand when we do something wrong? Bucky answers these questions, and more, while discussing his latest sermon, Truth Loves.

The meaning of love has been redefined. Present culture thinks love is the complete acceptance and affirmation of others, including their actions and beliefs. But real love cannot disregard truth. So, what does God mean when He uses the word love in the Bible? And how are truth and love inherently connected?

Many things that are seen as political these days were biblical first. Bucky discusses why he doesn’t shy away from these topics, how he responds to the pressure to comply, and how he navigates political engagement as a believer.

The world has never been friendly to Christianity. Jesus didn’t show 1st century believers how to live at peace with their culture, but how to live righteously regardless of culture. And He expects the same from His followers today. Jesus has already given Christians everything we need to be everything He calls us to be. So, be who you are in Christ! (1 Peter 1:13-21)

Christians can rejoice because we live according to absolute truth. Effective and victorious Christianity is based on what we know, not on what we feel. In other words, we don’t adjust our beliefs to whatever is currently trending in the world. In these 9 verses, the apostle Peter gives at least six reasons believers can rejoice, regardless of our circumstances.

We often struggle to make sense of suffering. We treat it as something abnormal to a faithful Christian life. Well, Peter mentions suffering or trials at least 15 times in the five chapters of 1 Peter. So, in studying this book, we need a general understanding of the possible reasons or causes of suffering. 

Many people today are so focused on the temporal activities of life that they’re oblivious to the spiritual. Believers, however, should be preparing for a coming King, not living in fear of a dying world. Are you ready? And what’s involved in getting ready? One of Jesus’ parables shows us the wisdom of readiness and the foolishness of being unprepared.

How should Christians respond to the Trump assassination attempt? How do we work toward national unity in this political environment? And what should believers be doing? Bucky looks at the biblical answers to these questions and more. 

How do we know if we’re living in the last days? Well, the Bible gives certain end times indicators. Throughout Scripture we’re told to be aware of the age in which we live; to keep an eye on what’s happening in Israel; and to know the spiritual condition of the Church. Each of these things should be a source of encouragement to believers and a warning sign for nonbelievers.

The most miserable people are those who have a saved soul but live a lost life. Abraham’s nephew, Lot, is an illustration of such a man. He made choices that compromised his faith and removed his godly influence. If you want to avoid a life of misery, then heed the warnings in Lot’s life and follow the example set by Abraham.
