Bridging the Gap With Pastor Lloyd Pulley

We've spent a considerable amount of time studying the gospel of Mark on the program, and today we reach chapter fourteen, verses forty three through seventy two. In this familiar scene, Jesus is arrested in the Garden of Gethsemene.

Mark is the shortest of the four gospel accounts of Jesus Christ's earthly life, but it contains some very moving accounts of His ministry. One of those accounts is in chapter fourteen, verses thirty two through forty two, where we see the Lord in the Garden of Gethsemene.

There are so many memorable scenes described in God's word, and we'll look at one of them today. It's a familiar scene to most Christians - Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemene. Jesus went to the cross willingly as a sacrifice for our sins, but His souls was deeply troubled here in the garden - just hours before His painful death.

We're going to continue along in Mark's gospel, as we study chapter fourteen, verses twelve through thirty one. Here we see the scene of the last Passover, and the   Lord's last meal with His disciples.   The last few hours of the earthly life of Jesus are a wonderful picture of a man who knew His destiny, and accepted it willingly - because of His incredible love for us!

We're going to continue our verse by verse study in Mark's gospel today as we near the time when the Lord will be arrested and crucified. These verses describe some of the most important moments in human history - indeed they tell what God was willing to go through so you and I could have a chance to live in eternity with Him!

Today, we begin a study of Mark chapter fourteen. It's here that the plot is put into motion that eventually leads to Jesus Christ's death on the cross... an act that grants independence from hell to anyone who would repent of their sins and receive salvation from the Lord.

Today on Bridging the Gap, pastor Lloyd Pulley will share some of the signs that the return of Jesus Christ is imminent. The Bible points us toward the signs of the Lord's return, and the signs are occurring as we speak! Our series in Mark has reached the end of chapter thirteen.

Almost every Christian acknowledges that we are living in the last days. The Lord is going to return soon for His church. In Mark thirteen, Jesus spoke of some of the signs to look for as we await His glorious return. As we move along in today's study, I think you'll be surprised at just how many of the things Jesus spoke about are taking place!

Have you noticed how many politicians seem to have trouble with the truth these days? I mention this because it's important that we as Christians always have the facts of God's word available for sharing. How well do you know your Bible?

I think all Christians can agree that in order to be a good witness for God, we need to have our relationship with Him in good shape. Part of that right relationship is understanding that the Lord is coming back soon - and we must "be prepared"!  

Jesus Christ is the smartest person who has ever walked this earth. He is God, after all! Authority is present in just about every part of life. Who is the ultimate authority in your life? I hope your answer is Jesus Christ. Our scripture text today is Mark chapter twelve as we see Jesus assert His authority.  

Jesus had authority over the Chief Priests, Scribes and Elders on the Church, yet they confronted Him and questioned His authority. I think you'd agree, this is not the wisest move these guys could make. But let me ask you this: do you ever question God's authority over your life?

Why are we so preoccupied with collecting things and owning things? Jesus has some frank words to share about material possessions today as we look at the tenth chapter of Mark.  

Passions, possessions and position. Those are the three "P"'s we're looking at in Mark chapter ten. We looked at passions last time, and today we'll begin a look at possessions. There are between ten and fifteen million cars junked in the United States each year. Can you believe it? Our "stuff" never lasts very long... so what does?

Mark chapter ten is about as contemporary as this morning's headlines, as it deals with a problem that is commonplace in the year 2025 - divorce.   Back in the first century, men were divorcing their wives left and right, and the Pharisees asked Jesus if that was lawful.   We'll see what our Lord had to say on the matter on this edition of Bridging the Gap
