When life goes well for us, there is temptation to believe that we are self-reliant and independent. This mindset stands in direct opposition to the Gospel, which requires that we recognize our weakness and dependence on Jesus. The final church letter in Revelation warns Christians of the danger of pride and urges humble repentance to return to Jesus.

Everybody wants to fit in and be accepted. However, one of the threats to faithful in Jesus is the allure of fitting in with the world around us. Disciples are intended to stand out and be distinct rather than living like everyone else. A person cannot follow Jesus without letting Him shape the way they think and live. However, there are forces in our world that compete with Jesus for that influence.
