Bourbon Turntable

I keep going back for more of Leilani and Jeremiah when I'm picking music to listen to these last couple of weeks.  I'm excited for you to hear part two of my conversation with them on this week's episode.   If you can make it to St. Louis on Saturday (February 17) go see them on the same bill with our great friends, The Cold Stares.  For tickets: https://redflagstl.com/event/the-co...

Two of the best modern blues artists on the same show?  Yes, that's what we have for you this week.  Leilani Kilgore is an amazing young talent. Vocally, musically and lyrically...she's at the top of the class. Jeremiah Johnson has been putting on a master's class in American Blues with each album he releases.  He truly covers all the bases.   This is part one of my conversation wit...

The last show was so nice...we'll do it twice (sort of).  This week we focus on the beautiful one, John Wadell.  John is the single barrel manager (among other things) at Kentucky Peerless as well as being the co-founder of Stave and Bean Coffee Company.   Jason Brauner (Bourbons Bistro and Buzzard's Roost) is on-hand to join in the conversation with John.  We also dig into the top ten s...

John Wadell joins Kevin in a conversation with one of the greats of the whiskey world, Jason Brauner.  Jason is founder and owner of the greatest (and first) bourbon bar in the world, Bourbons Bistro.  He is also co-founder and Master Blender for one of the fastest growing whiskey brands around, Buzzard's Roost. We taste through all three batches of Buzzard's Roost Cigar Rye and talk wit...

This week I talk with the guys from Tin Zelkova.  This band has one of the most unique sounds around.  It sets me in mind of The Beatles meet Led Zeppelin with a bit of The Yardbirds.   Tin Zelkova is made up of brothers Steven and Michael Thompson and, a familiar face to Bourbon Turntable friends, drummer Jordan Simpson (Sweet Lady).   We also taste two of my honorable mention whiskeys from 2023:...

Welcome back for part two of our show with Nancy Fraley, Alan Bishop, Boomer Purcell and Andrew Brockman.  This week we taste Still Austin Cask Strength Bourbon and finish off our countdown of our top 5 bass players. Nancy is known as "The Nose" and is the foremost spirits blender in the world (Still Austin products being just one of the many distilleries she works with).  Alan is the he...

This is an incredibly fun show.  We have the foremost whiskey blender in the world, Nancy Fraley, returning to Bourbon Turntable.  Our guest host is The Alchemist, himself, Alan Bishop.  The show features whiskeys made or blended by them.   Plus...we talk about our favorite bass players and are joined by two tremendous bass players: Boomer Purcell of Sweet Lady and Andrew Brockman of Mojo Thunder....

Who doesn't love a good one-hit wonder or a tasty single barrel (or as our friend Mike Lisac mocks: SIBS)?  We've got both in this week's Bourbon Turntable. Drew and Kevin run down their top 5 one-hit wonders of all time as well as review The Rolling Stone's list.  Spoiler: our lists are better. While on the topic of single barrels, we also discuss one of the most popular &quot...

This week we talk about the incredible Chris Stapleton.  We talk about his albums, his songwriting and his live performances.  We also share a secret about the "Traveler" album that you might not know.  We also taste some Tennessee Whiskey and discuss what that style means.  We even cross into the "is Jack Daniel's bourbon" question. Please like, share, comment and subscri...

We also talk with Lenny about some of the best bands of all time f...

One of our favorite distillers, guests and human beings is Lenny Eckstein.  Lenny is the owner and master distiller at Deerhammer Distlling in Buena Vista, Colorado and he is making some of the most delicious whiskeys on the planet.   In part one we taste a bourbon and a rye, discuss Deerhammer's intentional "flavor drift" and their adjustment to a higher proof point in their standa...

This week we are joined by Alan Bishop as we do a deep dive into one of his favorite bands, Type O Negative.   Peter Steele was the founder and lead singer for Type O Negative and the band tracked the uniqueness and innovation of his life.   If you are unfamiliar with Type O Negative, they are worth your time.  Be sure to check them out.

Oweda is talented band out of Chattanooga with a beautifully balanced focus on the music and the lyrics of their songs.  Tyler Sorenson is the lead singer and founder of Oweda and our guest on this week's Bourbon Turntable. Tyler also shares our love of whiskey!  We taste a few different bourbons from his hometown Chattanooga Whiskey.   Be sure to check out Oweda on all streaming services and...

Join us as we celebrate that most festive time of year: Alan Bishop Day.  The official holiday is October 20, but it has grown in popularity and influence to the point that it occupies our hearts and minds the entire month. Kevin is joined by Mike Lisac and Pat Belongia of My Whiskey Den to toast / roast the man of honor: Colonel Alan Bishop. We share some stories about Alan (and Jolee), drink som...

We have Bourbon Women Cocktail Champion, Adina Ewaldz, with us this week.  She brought along her wonderful husband, Dave, who is an outstanding curator of cocktails in his own right. We go through some incredible fall cocktail recipes with them and Drew and I offer up a cocktail recipe or our own, too.   What goes better with a fall cocktail than some fall music...music that "feels" like...

This show is not about Cousin Eddie from the Vacation movies.  It is about a band out of the Phoenix area that is as hot as the desert sun and their music is the gift that keeps on giving year round (side note: they have some really good Christmas songs, too). The Deadbeat Cousins are Matt (vocals), Jaren (guitar), Jason (drums) and Matt (bass).  We talk with them about their personal beginnings i...

If you are a child of the 80's or even if you're just a fan of good, fun music, then "Sports" by Huey Lewis & the News has to be an album you love.   This album was everywhere when it came out 40 years ago this week.  It still holds up really well and is worth a fresh listen if you've been away from it for awhile.

There is a lot of good in the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame.  It honors and preserves the legacies of many of the great men and women who cemented Kentucky as the center of the Bourbon Universe. Like any Hall of Fame, there's some also some bad and some ugly. In this episode Drew and Kevin touch on all three: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments.  W...

We all have bands or bourbons that we love that don't quite get the fame or notoriety that we think they deserve.  This week Drew and Kevin each discuss three bands and three bourbons they think need your attention (or maybe more of it). Please like, share and subscribe to show some love to your favorite underrated podcast and YouTube show!

Austin Huff is a morning show DJ in Chicago, the largest country music market in the country.  He also runs an incredible sports humor site called, Korked Bats.  We talk with him about the state of country music including recent controversies with Jason Aldean and Tyler Childers.   We sample some bourbon from (the appropriately named) Still Austin.  We have their oated bourbon and red corn bottled...

Parker Barrow is a band led by Megan Kane (vocals) and Dylan Turner (drums).  The band has an infection sound that is genre-defying.  And Megan and Dylan are fantastic people and really fun guests.   Parker Barrow just released their first full-length album, Jukebox Gypsies, and we cannot recommend it enough.   We follow the "Bonnie & Clyde" theme of their name in our whiskey tasting...

Drew and Kevin are joined this week by musician, song writer and host of Top Hill Recording podcast, Neil Johnstone.   Neil has a great story to tell about living life and living the life of a musician.  He also shares with us the vision of Top Hill Recording podcast.  It is well worth your time. Drew also takes us through a blind tasting of a couple of classic bourbons.
