Bourbon Barrel Talk

The crew reviews the 2019 release of Mic Drop from PM Spirits. These releases tend to be fairly good and solid MGP blends. While their early releases were older, the newer ones have been 4-6 years old. 

The Den of Thieves take over the Brock's and review 3 super unique barrels available right now in Old Louisville's Single Barrel Program. The crew sits down and discusses two Derby Cocktail that are alternatives to the Mint Julep, Spire and Lilly. The Ky. Buck is a refreshing take on the Ky Mule, and The Forbidden Sour is a refresh of a whiskey sour, made with pomegranate liquor. 

The crew interviews and talks High West Distillery with Isaac Winter - Blending and Distilling Manager.  We discussed his background in the industry, his early career as a brewer and yeast guru, and what he does for fun. We discuss the Bottled in Bond Rye, Bourye and other expressions and what makes them unique. 

The crew sits down and reviews the 26th iteration of the Old Foresters President's Choice Bourbon. The PC bottles are a select group of chosen barrels that the Master Taster and Master Distiller set aside for the President to chose as their favorites and so PC's are born.

Round 3 the Elite 8 of the NIT Tournament of Whiskeys did not disappoint. Nick and Scott actually disagree on one...LOL. a few match up results will really shock you. 

The crew sits down to discuss and review the late fall release from Jack Daniels, the Twice Barreled Rye. The more JD I drink the more I find it to be fantastic, especially their ryes. 

This was a fun conversation through these blinds of round 2 of the ryes and barrel proof whiskeys. 

The crew blinds round 2 of the 100 proof/Bottled in Bond and Finished/under 100 proof bourbon and whiskeys. It's fun to see how everyday shelf whiskey still gets the crew excited. 

The crew sits down and reviews the newest release from Sazerac The Traveler. It's a collaboration between Master Distiller Harlan Wheatley and Country Legend Chris Stapleton. 

The Crew finishes out the Round of 32 blinds with barrel/cask strength products. Poor Carl had zero luck picking which pour was which. While Old Fo 1920 stood out for all of us. 

The crew blinds through the first round of Ryes and Whiskey. 

Nick suckers Scott into drinking and reviewing Jameson, Johnny Walker Red and Jameson Orange in honor of St. Patricks Day. Although I don't like scotch, I had to be a team player and play along. 

The crew and I walk through Part 2 of Round 1 is us tasting through under 100 proof and finished whiskeys. This bracket had 5 crowd favorites and brought out the best and worst of us all.. lol. @Jonny Tsunami. 

In this episode the crew picks between the first 8 pours in the bracket. The Bottled in Bond and 100 proof bourbons.

The crew reviews two different Starlight Finished Bourbons, one was the  Spanish Brandy picked by Louisville Bourbon Buzz and the other is a Ted Pear Brandy pick. 

The crew discuss the Starlight Mizunara vs Good Times Amuburana Honey Finished Bourbons. Both unique and tasty, but one offers such a delicate profile, I've not had in a while. 

Scott goes crazy and makes a Peanut Butter Whiskey inspired from an instagram video, and decides to create two cocktails from it. Peanut butter and jelly and peanut butter cup. Listen to find out if it turned out good and how to make your own. 

Scott sits down with the Brock's and Dan to review the Family Estate bottles from Starlight’s Repeal Day. The bourbon and rye both settling in at just over 7 years. 

Scott sits down with Sarah and some friends to discuss some cocktail creations of Sarah's. There was The Brown'd Butter Kiss, The Brosemary and a modern twist of the Whiskey Sour. Coming up with the names was the most fun part. 

The fellas review two newer Old Forester 1924 vs 117 Series Bottled in Bond. Both 100 proof and around 10 years old. But the 1924 is a different mashbill than typical Old Forester products. 

The crew sits down and reviews Garrison Brothers latest release Guadalupe. This is a 6 yr bourbon that was finished for 2 years in port barrels.

Scott, Andy and a couple of friends discuss and review two double oak bottles, Starlight and Old Louisville. The Starlight was a recent Ted Pick release, the Old Louisville was a sample given to me by a friend. I hope you enjoy our discussion.
