This family recording has my older brother Buddy playing with a small fan that has rubber blades. He created some interesting sounds by pressing the rapidly rotating fan blades into the microphone. In addition to myself and Buddy, I hear Mom and Buddy's kids Donna and Jimmy. If memory serves, my brother Monte was away at Silver Birch Ranch.

Is this my first recording with our recently acquired upright piano? The way it abruptly starts hints that someone else, perhaps my mother, heard me playing and started the recording. I heard "Solace" on the soundtrack of the film "The Sting" which was released on December 25, 1973.

The line that contains "goodnight Lucy" was from "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In." I could have recorded this any time after September 9, 1967 (release of "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In") when I was 9 years old.

I start playing chords I picked up from Bernard Herrmann, those breathing chords. Then it changes to other chords I’m experimenting with. I also seem to be manipulating the speed of the recording by interfering with the turning of the reels. By the end it sounds like I’ve damaged the recorder. The speed seems to change with the loudness.
