Tv EN ↓ 365 episodes

We're two guys covering all kinds of cult films from horror to action and everything in between. We try to bring funny and engaging content with our unique personalities, and we also review beer in each episode as well. Some of our past and present coverage includes Halloween specials, series retrospectives, Difficult Films month, Red Hot '80s Action Summer, '90s remakes, and a lot more. It's a pretty eclectic mix here, but if you're into cult films and beer, this is the place to be.

Episode 115: Season of Halloween (2) HALLOWEEN II 14.09.2018

We're back with the second episode of our Season of Halloween  experience, and we're talking about 1981's HALLOWEEN II! We cover a  bunch of stuff - mayonnaise and ham sandwiches, the eerie hospital  setting, Laurie's uselessness, the presence of Night of the Living Dead , and of course the Loony Loomis rating for this film. We're also talking Goose Island's Redub Amber Ale. Approxi...

Episode 114: Season of Halloween (1) HALLOWEEN (1978) 06.09.2018

We start our Season of Halloween off on a great note with the OG Halloween, one of John Carpenter's best works. We realize that everything that can be said about this film from a critical standpoint most likely has been said already, so instead of getting hypercritical, we just take an hour to talk about everything we enjoy - and some things we don't! - about Halloween, from its soundtrack...

Episode 113: ONE HOUR PHOTO 24.08.2018

After a long hiatus we are back with a new episode highlighting the excellent Robin Williams in a serious role that may be his best. We're talking One Hour Photo, where Williams shines as a happy-go-lucky photo technician who has become infatuated by a family after developing their photos for years. It's an interesting psychological thriller told through the stalker's eyes, and we talk about the g...

Episode 112: IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS 27.07.2018

We're already gearing up for Halloween, as is Scream Factory! For this episode, we take on the new Blu-ray of John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness, a film that's influenced both by Lovecraft and popular horror fiction. This is a trip of a film, and we contemplate reality, madness, the noir qualities of the movie, Sam Neill's performance, and the special effects by KNB. Also, we think the theme...

Episode 111: ANT-MAN AND THE WASP 13.07.2018

Blood and Black Rum Podcast continues its coverage of all of the most recent Marvel movies with a look at the small but extremely fun Ant-Man and the Wasp. We're big fans of Paul Rudd, and so he can pretty much do no wrong in a film, but we find that this movie is uniquely less about Ant-Man than it is about Hank Pym and the Wasp. That leads to some interesting reveals, some Macguffins, and some g...

Episode 110: HALLOWEEN II (2009) 29.06.2018

We have to admit, we weren't looking forward to doing Halloween II, Rob Zombie's sequel to his remake, on the show. We had already done the first one for Remakeoween and, if you listened to that episode, you know that we hated pretty much everything about it. Halloween II doubles down on all of that, plus it adds a mystical horse and Sheri Moon Zombie draped in white. It's terrible, and truthfully...

Episode 109: MALLRATS 15.06.2018

We don't do a lot of comedies on the show, but Kevin Smith films are their own type of cult classics and we have been in love with Mallrats ever since we saw it. In this episode, we talk about the film and its quirky charms, Jason Lee's particularly great acting here after his skateboarding career, the distillation of everything '90s, and a whole lot more. Something to note: we watched the Extende...

Episode 108: SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY 01.06.2018

Here's something of a different episode for the Blood and Black Rum Podcast. First of all, we've never covered a Star Wars film. Also, because Ryne's a casual SW watcher and Martin's an avid lover of the film series, we take turns talking about Solo: A Star Wars Story from both perspectives before coming together to talk about some of the good and bad in the film. Also: yes, we find Emilia Clarke...

Episode 107: SUSPIRIA 18.05.2018

Our new episode takes on a horror classic from Dario Argento: Suspiria! Just in time for the new remake this November, we're revisiting this ghoulish film that has become such a staple of the genre, and it's Martin's first time viewing. That means he doesn't have the nostalgic factor that Ryne does; however, we talk the colors, the music, the surplus order of barbed wire, the narrative (or lack th...

Episode 106: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR 02.05.2018

Spoilers in this episode. Turn back now if you haven't seen the film. As Marvel concludes its Phase 3 of the cinematic universe, we reminisce about everything we've seen thus far in the 10 years of cinema history. For Avengers: Infinity War, we document the films that you need to see before venturing out to this one; then, we get into the nitty-gritty of this nearly 3 hour long blockbuster, rangin...

Episode 105: PAT GARRETT & BILLY THE KID 06.04.2018

We said we were going to do a western, so we're doing a western! On the docket for this episode is Sam Peckinpah's classic 1973 film Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, a classic caper film where a sheriff chases an outlaw. In this case, it's James Coburn as the grizzled Pat Garrett and Kris Kristofferson as an old man playing the young Billy the Kid. We talk about Peckinpah's simple plot, the different...

Episode 104: LEPRECHAUN 3 23.03.2018

We're back a little late for St. Patrick's Day, but we're still celebrating with our annual tradition: the Leprechaun series! We're on to Leprechaun 3 this year, when Warwick Davis goes to Las Vegas for some reason. You can bet there's gambling, boobies, and even more weirdly funny sequences in this sequel, but even with all of the tongue-in-cheek humor, it's hard to truly appreciate this film. We...

Episode 103: DEATH WISH (2018) 09.03.2018

Since we did all of the other Death Wish films, we thought it would be important to do this Eli Roth remake as well. Joke's on us - this is the opposite of an important film. It's forgettable, boring, and certainly much less gritty than the original Charles Bronson film, and it also has an uncomfortable obsession with revenge murder. Roth doesn't even have his flair for gore too much here, and Bru...

Episode 101: THE ROOM 09.02.2018

We're talking about Tommy Wiseau's The Room on this episode of Blood and Black Rum Podcast. Ryne has never seen it before, so he's in for a treat. Discussion topics include our favorite scenes, an intricate break-down of how The Room came to be such a cult classic, and a surprising look at love and relationships as we try to get serious about the theme's of the film. We're also talking about Genes...

Episode 100: 100th Episode Retrospective | JOHN CARPENTER'S THE THING 18.01.2018

This is our 100th episode! We talk all of the episodes leading up to this in our retrospective, plus we cover Duvel beer as a celebratory drink. Then we get into John Carpenter's The Thing: the special effects, the Ennio Morricone soundtrack, the excellent direction and atmosphere, and other reasons why it's one of our favorite films! We hope you enjoy our 100th episode and here's to 100 more. App...

Episode 99: PHENOMENA 04.01.2018

We take a look at the horror/giallo film PHENOMENA from Dario Argento, talking about the insane plotting like a girl who can control insects, a random chimp, a disfigured mystery killer, and more! We also get into the power metal soundtrack, Goblin's synth boss battle songs, and Donald Pleasance's resume as entomologist/zookeeper/doctor/author/etc. We're also drinking Sam Adams Oatmeal Stout and B...

New Year's Special | NEW YEAR'S EVIL 28.12.2017

We're celebrating New Year's with the only New Year's movie that we really know: NEW YEAR'S EVIL! We're talking about the film's punk rock/hair metal/new wave soundtrack, the early release of this slasher, the reveal of the killer's identity early, enjoying Roz Kelly's getup, and other crazy things about this ridiculous 1980 slasher. Approximate timeline 0:00-13:00...

Episode 97: Festivus Series | DIE HARD 2 20.12.2017

In our final Festivus Series episode, we take a look at Die Hard 2, a very similar sequel to the Bruce Willis-led original. We talk about the differences from the first film, the bloated runtime, John McClane actually making things worse, Reginald VelJohnson's top billing, and the star-studded cast including William Sadler and Dennis Franz! We've also got the Sierra Nevada winter pack on the show....

Episode 96: Festivus Series | SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT 3: BETTER WATCH OUT! 06.12.2017

Our Festivus Series continues, and so does our yearly coverage of the Silent Night, Deadly Night series. We're onto part 3, subtitled Better Watch Out!, and we're talking about the lack of Christmas in this film, the poor continuity from the previous movie, the horrible direction and slow pacing, and a whole lot more flaws in this barely-holiday film. Also, we've got Brown's Brewery's Rauchbier on...

Episode 95: Festivus Series | THE SANTA CLAUSE 29.11.2017

We start Festivus 2017 with THE SANTA CLAUSE, the original 1994 comedy starring Tim Allen as a corpulent guy turning into jolly old Saint Nick. We talk about Neal's sweaters, Tim Allen's sarcasm, the underlying sinister intent in the film, Santa Claus kidnapping minors, and other comedy gold from this nostalgic Christmas movie. We're also drinking Brooklyn Winter Lager. Approximate timeline 0:00-1...

Episode 94: JUSTICE LEAGUE/New Belgium Cellar Blender Sour Ale 21.11.2017

We continue our coverage of all of the new superhero films with Justice League - even though we were disappointed with Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad and only fairly intrigued with Wonder Woman. Justice League is definitely a step up from the former two films but it doesn't match the solid storyline of the latter - we talk about the problematic characterization of the Flash, Aquaman, and Cybo...

Episode 93: THANKSKILLING/Keystone Light 15.11.2017

Our Thanksgiving episode hits a little early with our coverage of Thankskilling, the 2009 low-budget horror film. We try to figure out if it's intentionally or unintentionally bad; either way, we enjoy the ridiculousness of the plot, the bad dialogue, the tons of puns, the big boobies at the beginning of the film, and more! We also talk about Keystone Light because that's what they're drinking in...

Episode 92: THOR: RAGNAROK/Budweiser 1933 Prohibition Repeal Amber Lager 08.11.2017

We're back with a new superhero episode! We're talking about the new MCU film THOR: RAGNAROK. We discuss the weird plotting issues that plague the film, Jeff Goldblum's presence, the colorful synth-y new world that Taika Waititi has built, and the more comedic aspect of this release. We also discuss Budweiser's new 1933 Prohibition Repeal Amber Lager! Approximate Timeline 0:00-10:00 Intro 10:00-15...

Episode 91: Halloween Special: JIGSAW 29.10.2017

We hope you enjoy our Halloween Special on JIGSAW as we do a deep dive into the franchise itself and compare this new installment. We talk about the traps, the twists, the incorporation of Tobin Bell, and more! Just a warning: there are all kinds of spoilers in this, so make sure you watch the film first. Happy Halloween from Blood and Black Rum Podcast! Approximate timeline 0:00 - 12:00 Intro 12:...

Episode 90: Remakeoween VIII | HALLOWEEN (2007) 24.10.2017

Our last Remakeoween episode is Rob Zombie's Halloween from 2007. We saw this in theaters back when it released but haven't seen it since; we talk about the Zombification of John Carpenter's original, the trailer trash Michael Myers in this film, the presence of Malcolm McDowell for some strange reason, the film's inability to come up with a solid backstory for Michael despite spending an hour on...
