Idaho finished the 2023 season with a 9-4 record. The Vandals earned a bye in the FCS Playoffs, then beat Southern Illinois in overtime for the first playoff win by UI in 30 years. A few weeks after having their season end with a 30-22 loss to UAlbany in the quarterfinals, Idaho head coach Jason Eck announced the signing of 28 new Vandals.
