Bible Back Story
Essentially, I'm a guy who lived 35 years of his life believing that if you were basically a good person, you'd probably go to heaven. It was August of 1992 and my childhood best friend invited us to Calvary Chapel Santa Barbara. After that, we never missed a Sunday service or a mid-week service. This podcast is the product of a lot of people asking me a lot of questions over the years. I’ve had a lot of encouragement that these have been a blessing or been used as a tool to converse with non-believers. I hope this encourages you to dig deeper for the hidden beauty for yourself. Blessings, CB

150. Chosen: Heading East 09.06.2020 1:22:11
Join us tonight as we briefly discuss the Court of the Tabernacle, and continue talking about the coming end of days, from the Rapture to the New Jerusalem, a period of 1007 years yet future. We will continue to look at why the so-called pre-tribulation rapture seems to fit Scripture and what it might mean to us and our walk. That being said, prophecy by definition is about something that ha...
149. The Tabernacle: Part 7 (The Bronze Laver) 01.06.2020 1:14:30
**Please forgive the few minutes of background noise in the middle of the podcast** Join us as we celebrate Shavuot, you may know it as Pentecost (after the Greek word for 50). We look at the events of Shavuot, sideswipe the bronze laver in the courtyard of the Tabernacle and talk about the bride and the end times. We will lay a foundation for further study of the end times and events of th...

145. The Tabernacle: Part 3 (The Table of Shewbread) 03.05.2020 55:54
Join us tonight as we continue to look at the Tabernacle and see YHVH, Y’shua, and each of us pictured pretty clearly. Tonight we look at the shool-kawn’ שלחן or the Table of Shewbread. Reference Verses: Revelation 14:12, Exodus 25:23-30, Hosea 6:6, Matthew 6:33, Psalm 23, Psalm 69:22, Malachi 1:7, 1 Corinthians 10:21, Mark 7:25-29, Exodus 25:29-30, Matthew 4:4
144. The Tabernacle: Part 2 (The Ark of the Covenant) 27.04.2020 1:03:22
Join us as we continue to look at the Tabernacle, and some of the spiritual meanings. Tonight, we have a look at the Ark of the Covenant and the Mercy Seat (the only furniture in the Holy of the Holies), and learn some of the messages YHVH gave to Moshe and to us through the Mish-kin’ and all of its parts and pieces. Reference Verses Proverbs 16:21, Isaiah 53:1-3, Exodus 25:8, Genesis 31:49, Exo...
143. The Tabernacle: Part 1 (The Foundation) 21.04.2020 1:02:53
Tonight we will lay the foundation for the next few weeks as we have a closer look at the tabernacle and the things within it. Far more than just a place to worship God - it is, as Hebrews records, an “example and shadow of heavenly things”. It has great meaning past the flannel graph studies we are used to, and offers an almost unparalleled view of the Messiah, and of us as humans. While the Tem...
142. How Many Biblical Events Occur During Feasts? 12.04.2020 57:43
We all know at least something about the Feasts of the Lord. The Feasts are fun and prophetic and we can learn much by celebrating them. But most Christians do not really know just how much of the Bible, (both Old and New Testament) takes place during a Feast. A majority of the Parables we are familiar with are related to a Feast. The end times are spoken of at a feast, much of Y’shua's int...
141. Wisdom: Is It Learned or Inherited? 04.04.2020 55:04
Have you ever wondered what wisdom was or if you had it? Have you known people you might characterize as "wise"? Is it something inherited, learned, or purchased? Can anyone become wise? Are there classes to take or books to read? Join us as we add to the account of good and bad, right and wrong, obedient and disobedient, and learn what God holds in the highest regard. Reference Verses: Matthew 13...
140. Free Will In The Garden? 04.04.2020 1:07:43
We answer a question “Did God put good and bad, or right and wrong in Aw-dawm (Adam) and Khav-vaw’ (Eve) to allow them to “take of the apple?” We look at free will, good and bad, obedience and disobedience. We spend some time learning the truth about the current Corona Virus facts and figures and use those facts to investigate why and how they fell for the lie of the Naw-kawsh’ in the Garden...
139. The Old Ways, The Ancient Paths 25.03.2020 1:01:08
Tonight, we look at one of the commandments not often counted on the "official list" from Jeremiah chapter 16 - one of my favorite places in Scripture when it comes to getting a wake up call. The Lord asks the children to follow the old ways and the ancient paths and the children say “ we will not ”. I know you and I would never say that…or do we? Have a listen and see what you think. Refere...
138. The First Commandments...No, Not Those 16.03.2020 59:12
Join us as we take a look and the first 5 commandments from Genesis 1 and 2. Somehow, they do not make it on to most Rabbis list of the 613 mits-vaw’s. We will have a quick look around at a few other commandments and share possible ideas about to interpret those that apparently cannot be fulfilled today. Reference Verses: Genesis 1:28, Genesis 2:16, Leviticus 12:3, Numbers 15:38, Deuteronomy 8:10,...
137. Turn The Other Cheek 10.03.2020 1:00:42
Often the context of Scripture is as important as the words. Join us as we look at some of the most mis-applied words in the Book. What does it really mean to turn the other cheek? Why is the man who lost a court case for his jacket giving up his underwear also? Why is that Roman soldier chasing after that Jew begging for his pack back? We should love our neighbors, but what if he is sworn t...
136. Seeking Revenge, Holding Grudges & Loving Thy Neighbor 29.02.2020 50:57
We continue with our look at some of the Words or instructions from YHVH, wrongly called the “law” in English. We will have a look at “seeking revenge, holding a grudge” and who is our “neighbor” … and "enemy". In the context of the Hebrew language, culture, and time, YHVH has much more for us here than we typically understand. Creative engagement for redemption, is how one writer put it. Are we c...
135. The First Four Words (Commandments) 15.02.2020 1:12:04
We continue to look at the instructions YHVH gave His people identifying the path to an eternity with Him. Most who call themselves Christians today have a somewhat incomplete understanding of God’s instructions, and why they are important in helping us see the straight gate and narrow path. Some might even believe these words have nothing for us because “all we need is love” perhaps confusing Joh...
134. The Foundation of Understanding the Torah 12.02.2020 1:02:05
We begin a new journey tonight as we lay the foundation for understanding the instructions contained in Scripture, incorrectly called the law in English. The instructions, statutes, judgements, and commandments allow us to see what a life lived for YHVH looks like. What do “thou shalt not murder, commit adultery, steal, and bear false witness” really mean? Do we need to honor our parents if they a...
133. Vayechi Torah Portion - “And He Lived” 09.02.2020 1:06:43
This weeks Torah Portion provides much encouragement and prophecy. We are told that after all Israel went through in his life that at the end …he lived. So too will we live at the end despite the many adversities we face if we stay true to YHVH. We will read Israel’s blessing on this grandchildren and why he adopted them, we will find out who God records through the prophet Isaiah, as His first bo...
132. Miketz Torah Portion - "At The End" 20.01.2020 1:10:48
A very important Torah portion for anyone who believes we are living near the end of days. Jesus answered the disciples questions “ When shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming? ” by explaining what the physical world will look like: wars and rumors of wars, famines, pestilences, earthquakes and the rest. But, almost 2000 years before Jesus described the...
131. Vayeshev Torah Portion - "And He Dwelt" 20.01.2020 1:10:48
In this portion we read that Jacob (or Israel), sat down or dwelt in Canaan, He might have been looking at retirement after he had sired the 12 tribes, survived Laban and Esau, both Leah and Rachel have died and it seems that he has fulfilled YHVH’s jobs for him. But the greatest trial yet awaits. The prophetic pictures contained in Jacob moving to Egypt are many and very important for us to recog...
130. Vayishlach Torah Portion - “And He Sent” 06.01.2020 1:13:32
We start this week’s lesson by watching a video of Mac King doing The Rope Trick (https://youtu.be/xmI9uwYzH9o). This is the second of three very prophetic sections surrounding Jacob and Esau. An interesting historical study to be sure, but the prophetic implications are awesome. Why did Esau not kill Jacob in the desert when they met? Had he not sworn to do so? Why did God tell Jacob to return to...
129. Vayetze Torah Portion - “And he went out” 03.01.2020 1:00:16
A portion packed with prophecy for the end of time. The account of Jacob as he went out from his home to uncle Laban’s place to find a wife. Including “Jacob’s ladder,” wrestling with God, how Jacob came to have 4 wives, his meeting with Esau who had sworn to kill him, and much, much, more as they say. We all know the accounts, but we are a little less positive about the prophetic meanings of thes...
128. Toldot Torah Portion - “Generations” 03.01.2020 1:09:04
This Torah portion called “Toldot” or generations, is about Jacob and Esau, but more than the historical account. This and the next three or four sections are prophetic. They contain so much good information about what the wold will look like at the end. Do you believe Jacob (or Israel as God calls him) is a deceiver? Have you ever wondered why so many of the matriarchs in Scripture are barren? Sa...
127. The Real Christmas Story 19.12.2019 1:05:55
This week, we learn the truth about the Christmas story, not the one you will hear at Church, but what actually happened according to the Bible. Most people already know Jesus was not born on December 25th, but do not know about the importance of that date. I would go so far as to say December 25th of 5BC may be the most important day in all of history. The birth of Jesus in a “manger” far away fr...
126. Chayie Sarah Torah Portion - “The Life of Sarah” 19.12.2019 1:01:01
In this Torah Portion called “the Life of Sarah” we actually learn of the death of Sarah, and are pushed to remember her life. In this portion, along with the Book of Ruth, we are given the exact instructions to be saved. I’m really not sure why Ruth and Genesis 24 are not required reading for all new believers. Do you believe God meets you where you are? Do you believe we do not need to do anythi...
