Cask Beer is having a resurgence in Cape Town, and leading that cause is Stephen from Shackleton Brewery. We chat to him about successful beer events, making a kölsch beer and his collab beer with Cameron from Atlantic Storm Brewing Co. What a time to be alive!

The League of Beers has been delivering craft beers all over South Africa for the past six years. We celebrate by drinking all the beers from their monthly case, which happen to be IPA’s. Not a bad way to celebrate a birthday!  

We drink the latest collaboration beer from two Cape Town breweries. This thick and boozy Imperial Stout has incorporated honey selected yeast, black honey coffee, lactose and molasses. Sitting at 11,5% it’s best to drink around a roaring fire… naked.

Kevin Wood started Darling in 2010 after accidentally drinking a home-brewed beer in a remote African town. Big breweries are buying up smaller breweries, distribution networks are being bought out and the smaller craft guys will be left to die. Or will they? We drink and discuss the top London breweries, Beavertown, Camden Town and Fourpure, who’ve all sold a percentage to Big Beer.

Paul is the owner/founder of The Kennel Brewery located in the suburbs of Durbanville. He is probably one of the friendliest guys in the industry. His beers are best known for their quirky labels, named after different dogs. Because no one likes cats. Yup

Nick Smith is from the USA and has worked for breweries like New Belgium and Abita. In 2016 he moved to Franschhoek, South Africa to start Soul Barrel, and has since made a name for himself with his tasty beers. What a great guy!

Mike is the master behind one of the countries most popular beer blogs, Real Beer Revolution. He has tasted and reviewed many a fine beer from around the world, and continues to grow his database of beers and breweries. He is also a whiz on social media. Bazoinks!

Olaf is the head brewer at Franschhoek Beer Co. and is making some world class beers. Predominantly a wine area, Franschhoek is now a breeding ground for exceptional breweries. We chat about his high ABV beers, selecting wine and starting a brewery.
