What happens when our faith and our expectations don’t match up? In this sermon we take a look at how the Psalmist works through this very common life experience. In the end we find that we need God’s testing and working and conforming far more than God needs our gifting. Through this Psalm we are gifted with a category for waiting…being still.

In this sermon we realize that walking by faith isn’t always slaying giants, but simply believing enough to cry out for help. We see David’s honesty and willingness to speak truth to himself. In the end his heart comes back around to realizing that God is, indeed, near. This sermon ends focusing on three ways God strengthens our hearts that may seem a bit unintuitive.

David’s lament points to firmly rooted faith and not a hopeless heart.

God is gracious, so I don’t have to prove myself. God is great so He doesn’t need me (to secure things for Him), therefore I can lean on Him.

God is good, so I don’t have to look elsewhere for comfort, peace, and fulfillment. God is sovereign, so I don’t have to be in control.

It is because Satan so ardently believes the truth that he can be so crafty in his schemes. We fall to temptation precisely because we fail to believe the truth.

The grace of God, which is unconditional, leads to real relationship, freedom, and hope.

Peter's two exhortations near the end of his letter remind dispersed believers that to live in this world but not of it requires us to be sober and watchful.

God is beyond you...doesn 't need you...you don't have anything to offer at the table AND YET He loves you beyond measure...based upon no merit of your own...nothing could ever separate you from that love...He is graciously working all things for your good.

As Peter begins to land the plane in his letter you get the sense that he is giving last minute exhortations and warnings that the reader might endure. This week we see the power of oversight and humility.

Are we celebrating the resurrection for the sake of celebration or are we celebrating the resurrection because it changed everything? This sermon gives some framework through which this question can be fleshed out in your life.

What we rejoice in says a great deal about the god that we serve.

We have been given the gift of contribution.

If the end is near there has never been a greater need for our sobered presence in this life.
