Andy Talks

In our Blue Christmas Service message, Andy shares from Habakkuk 2: 18-20.  We see the prophet bring his questions to God.  In a world following apart, he has many, many questions. So do we.  God can handle our hurts, our pain, and our questions.  

In our Traditional service message from December 11, 2022, we read from 2 Peter 3: 9-12. Waiting is part of our faith; part of our life. We find in scripture that waiting is not wasted, waiting is a mercy, it is a chance to live fully another day.  

In our Traditional message, Andy shares with us from Hebrews 11: 1-11.  In this passage, we see that faith is the "easy answer" to how we please God. But what do we do when the easy answer is hard?  We know that He holds onto us as much as we hold onto Him. 

As we begin our Advent season today, Andy shares with us from Luke 1: 26-38.  We seem that part of the deal of faith is waiting. Why is that?  Why must we wait?  What is it that we can possibility learn as we wait? 

In our INTERSECTION message from November 20, 2022, Andy shares with us from Colossians 1: 11-20.  The hardest idols to fight are the good ones.  How do we truly make Jesus king of our lives?

In our Traditional sermon from November 13, 2022, Andy shares with us from 2 Thessalonians 3: 6-13.  We should not grow weary from doing good.  How is that possible?  To be thankful.  

In our All Saints sermon from November 6, 2022, Andy shares with us from Luke 6: 20-31. When we remember that this world is not our home, we are actually able to be more effective for Jesus in this world!  

In our Tradition message from October 30, 2022, Andy shares with us from John 6: 66-69.  What does it truly mean to be committed to Jesus?  What does it mean to say that Jesus is Lord? 

In our INTERSECTION message,  Andy shares from Numbers 8: 14-18 and Revelation 1: 4-6.  In the Old Testament, God had the priests who led His people, but now we are all a kingdom of priests to serve our God.  We all have a role to play in leading other people to Jesus! 

In our Traditional sermon from October 9, 2022, Andy shares with us from Genesis 28: 10-17. We see that space is indeed sacred. This sacredness should cause us to be reverent, but always welcoming.   

In our Traditional message from October 2, 2022 Andy shares with us from Acts 6: 1-7.  How does church work?  How do all these things fit together?  How does it all happen.  We find out, there is no magic church fairy, it's just you, me, and the Holy Spirit! 

This should actually be thought of as the Lost Brothers. We see two brothers today, lost in sin. One in the sin of lack of righteousness, one in the sin of self righteousness.  To both of these brothers, the Father came running with grace.  No matter where we find ourselves, may we know the Father's deep love. 

In our Traditional sermon from September 18, 2022, Andy shares with us from Esther 4.  This passage is very much where we can find ourselves. We are comfortable, all is well. Jackson, or Memphis' problems are of no concern to us. Yet, just like Esther, we are called to look beyond our comfort to the needs that, in truth, do affect us.

In our Traditional message from September 11, 2022, Andy shares with us from Luke 10: 25-27. We take a look at this passage from the view of the Samaritan.  We see how hard yet essential it is to love our enemies.

In our Traditional sermon from August 28, 2022, Andy shares with us from Luke 19: 1-10.  In this message we look the the familiar story of Zacchaeus. What does it mean that he was a tax collector?  We see in this story the power of Jesus' love to transform anyone.  

In our INTERSECTION message, Andy shares with us from 1 Samuel 17.  In this familiar story of David and Goliath, we learn that this is not a motivational story. We are not David, Jesus is David, slaying the Goliaths in our lives.

In our final message from Nehemiah, Andy preacher from Nehemiah 9: 1-5.  In this passage we see the power and beauty of a what a team can truly do for God. What is next here?  Our best days! 

In our Traditional message from July 24, Andy shares with us from Nehemiah 6:15-7:4.  We see that the wall is completed.  The is finished. But our faith and our work in the church is something that is never completed.  We are called to finish our faith; we call are called to be faithful.  

In our INTERSECTION message from July 17, we see Nehemiah's speech to rally his people in Nehemiah 4: 10-14?  How does he inspire the people to fight?  To fight for their families.  Do we fight for our families?  

In our message from July 10, 2022, we look at passages in Nehemiah that show us this. Being faithful, rebuilding the wall is not always easy, in fact, more often than not we will face opposition.  Internal opposition and external opposition.  But being faithful is always worth it. 

Preaching revival at Chapel of the Cross UMC in Columbia, MS, I preach from Acts 7.  I share how God has redeemed and used all the tragedies in my life; my mother's murder, family losses, and even my recent cancer and health issues.  God can redeem and use all of life, even the hard parts, if we will let Him.  

In Nehemiah 2: 11-20, we look at Nehemiah taking and honest inspection of the wall.  It was in bad shape. It needed to be rebuilt.  Until we know where we are and where we stand, we can't fully rebuilt.  But we want to make sure we rebuilt to be who God is calling us to be, not rebuilding on nostalgia and what we used to be.  

In our Traditional message from June 19 we look at Nehemiah 2: 1-8.  Today we see that Nehemiah is motivated to rebuild the wall because he remembers his people. As we rebuild, we need to remember the importance of our community here, remember our mission, and remember how much we love each other.
