Ah the good old, reliable movie trope. Clichés you can rely on popping up time and time again. On the podcast today, I talk about 10+ movie tropes I've seen so many times I've lost count. The cat running across the table for an easy jump scare. The car crash that leaves the protagonist unharmed. The slow-mo walk away from the explosion. I cover all these an more! On the Friday live stream; I talked about 20 must-watch, amazing movie thrillers. These are films that make you feel uneasy and keep you on the edge of your seat. Movie spinoffs rarely work but they are an easy way to cash-in on a big property. On occasion, we get something brilliant like a "Logan" but for the most part, it ranges from passable to downright miserable. Today on the podcast, I go over movie spinoffs, both old and new and give my takes on a variety of films. As a bonus, I provide my own list of bad movie spinoffs ideas and encourage you do the...

I need to yell this one more time for the back row. MOVIES ARE TOO LONG NOW! I miss the 90 minute runtimes that were more common in the 90s. A fast runtime can make a somewhat mediocre experience far more enjoyable. "Leaving an audience wanting more" used to be the main goal. Now it's "Leave the audience wanting less" and I'm not having it! Now, there are plenty of films that earn the lengthy runt...

I miss comedies! Yes, they still make a movie from time to time that hits right but over the years, they just aren't as prevalent as they once were. Movies like Caddyshack, American Pie, Dumb & Dumber, Austin Powers, Zoolander and many more just hit different when they released. Comedy legends like Chris Farley, John Candy, Adam Sandler, Leslie Nielsen, Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray...

Movies that go on for awhile tend to lose their way or slip up. Today I'm talking about films that got them back on track. Movies like X-Men: Days of Future Past, Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Thor: Ragnarok and plenty more. These are my top 10 picks for movies that saved a franchise! Rachel Zegler has been making news lately for talking trash about the original Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs. She is currently playing Snow White in yet another Disney live-action cash-grab. The internet has naturally been losing their mind over this but I take a slightly different approach. I don't care! On today's podcast, I talk about the dreaded writer and actor strike currently taking place in Hollywood. We are going to see a big dry spell when it comes to entertainment but will it be worth it in the long run? I weigh in on things ranging from streaming service payouts to AI in films. Join me for the discussion and make sure to subscribe so you don't miss another movie-related podcast. See Pri...

In an effort to entice moviegoers to see a new film, Hollywood studios have decided to pour tons of money into a movie's production costs. Films like Fast & the Furious, that used to have a meager budget have now ballooned to over $300 million dollars to make. Indiana Jones, Mission: Impossible and new Pixar films are having the same issue. This makes a return on investment incredible hard or outr...

It has finally happened. Superhero movies are now lame. At least, in this current climate. The MCU went from trendsetter to lackluster in the last few years. The multiverse made everything incredibly pointless. The DCEU isn't doing so hot either. In fact it died. The Snyderverse is over and the remaining films are bombing at the box office. Shazam 2 and The Flash lost money; lots of money. I'm gue...

With the writers and actors strike going on, I thought it would be interesting to look at some of the movie characters and performances brought to the big screen over the years. I want to really think about what these actors brought to the roles and why trying to replicate and recapture that magic almost never works out. Some roles seem almost tailor made for actors. Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones...

What happened? When did things go wrong? CGI has come such a long way but at some point Hollywood studios decided to replace practical effects with sketchy CGI on most major films. Superhero movies are the biggest offenders here. So many fake backgrounds and rushed CGI scenes leave the audience feeling disconnected from what they are watching. The best films blend both computer generated imagery w...

Movie criticism has changed a lot over the years. Now that everyone has a loud voice online, the old ways of looking at films seem to be falling by the wayside. Rotten Tomatoes and other outlets also seem fake to some, at times. Plus YouTube and TikTok critics get noticed for having extreme positions. It's a bad system and people are rightfully not having it. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.co...

In this episode of the podcast, I talk about a new trend I've seen lately, where people can't help but get offended over even the smallest of movie criticism. They act as if they have a personal stake in the film or if by pointing out a flaw, I've unlocked some toxic trait that needs to be suppressed. In an era of rapid technological advancements and shifting viewing habits, the experience of watching movies has undergone a profound transformation. Gone are the days of eagerly waiting in line at the theater, savoring the anticipation as the lights dimmed and the screen came alive. The shared communal experience of being surrounded by fellow film enthusiasts, collectively absorbed in the storyte...

Listen, movie rental stores weren't perfect. Not by a long shot. There was, however, a sense of community there. It also felt like you were getting out and doing something. Streaming services are far more convenient and keep you home but it comes at a cost. Movies have become less special since they are always at your fingertips. The thrill of getting the last copy of a movie is gone. I miss movie...

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts comes out very shortly so I thought it would be fun to look back on the Transformers movies and rank them. Michael Bay gave us a rollercoaster of films that range from pretty awesome to downright dreadful. I give you my thoughts on the Transformers movies plus some fun facts about the films and what I think of the new movie. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/...

On this episode of the movie podcast, I go over my love/hate relationship with Disney. They used to be pioneers in the industry, making some of the most beloved animated films to-date. Now, they seem like a corporate conveyor belt. Pushing out remake after remake with no real love or care put into them anymore. I go through the history of Disney 2D animated movies and explain why Disney has lost t...

Today on the show I cover 5 movie trilogies that could have been truly great. Unfortunately, they didn't stick the landing with the 3rd movie. Studio interference, director departures and cast shake-ups all contributed to these terrible movies getting made. Terminator, Alien, X-Men, Spider-Man and Blade are the trilogies being talked about today but plenty of others have fallen victim to the curse...
