These rotary encoder user-interface elements remind us a lot of very old iPods (before it was all touch wheel interface). The middle wheel is a rotary encoder, and there's 5 buttons in addition (up down left right and center). We used a modified version of CircuitPython on a Feather RP2040 to visualize how a "HUB75" RGB matrix is scanned.
