BYU's 1Achord is one of the many great club groups on campus, distinguishing itself with its strong performances and arrangements. In this episode, we talk about where they fit into the a cappella culture there, and hear them sing.

The Stanford Mendicants are one of the longest-standing collegiate groups on the west coast, having been founded in 1963. While in California, we spent some time with the Calabasas High School Bare Rhythm. Bare Rhythm has done a lot for a high school group, including professional recording, big-time stage performances, and more. All-gendered group A Lotta Fermata at BYU started with members of multiple institutions before consolidating and moving ahead as they are today. We talked with them about that history, and about how they integrate in the BYU a cappella community. Then they sang for us in the mobile studio!

Depending on interest and audition levels, Cheyenne Mountain High School will have Crimson and Slate each be separate groups - or combined as an all-gender group. When we spoke with them in 2018, they were in their combined status. We talked about that transition back and forth with the members of the group, and about their goals. They also sang us some tunes live!

While on the road in California, Face graciously stepped into the mobile studio to talk about their evolution from post-collegiate to semi-pro to pro group, and how they determined it was time to take that leap. We discussed their growing international following and how they built it, and they shared some great stories. Plus, they sang for us live!

How can we redefine what it means to be in a cappella group? What are the responsibilities and privileges that being in a group offers? Most importantly, how can we share these benefits with those in need?

In 2018, we sat down with the members of Unstrumental from Calabasas High School just outside of Los Angeles. They talked about the recording process, about the commitment of time and effort involved in the group, and their future plans. We also heard some of their current repertoire.

Chris Juengel has made the transition that many a cappella singers want: from collegiate group member to full-time pro in the field. In this episode, we talk with him about making that journey, and how he has managed the pitfalls along the way.
